Most people seem to go first to the Grid view. Don't know why. Maybe the name 'Grid' is appealing or maybe it is just confusing.
For those who are used to the Database module, probably the two things that are most confusing in the Dataform are the following:
- In the Database, if you want to display a list of entries in a horizontal table, you need to put in the list view template broken html. In the Dataform, you can use either the Aligned view or the Tabular with valid html and these views will take care of the rest.
- In the Database, the list view displays a list of the entries and the single view displays one entry at a time. In the Dataform each and every view can be a list or a single view. By default the view displays all the entries. If you want to make it single, you can set the view per page setting to 1.
You can create any number of list views and assign them different filters to display different subsets of the entries.
You can create designated list view for instructors to manage entries. So students can have read only list views with only some of the data, and instructors can have editable views with more data.
You can create any number of single views with different subsets of fields. You simply add to the entry template a different subset of field patterns.
