Introducing evolve-D(earborn).   A Moodle theme that is based off More but with an abundance of enhancements that evolved into a new theme.  Evolve-D sports a clean, minimal design with a focus on simplicity to minimize distractions.   What makes this theme different is it's new approach to the Moodle frontpage.  Logged in users are presented with a custom homepage while logged out users get a beautiful login page with a fullscreen image background.  You can even opt to use the built in login form or the standard Moodle login form.  Each login form has unique styling and a beautiful fullscreen image background.

Features

  • Custom login page with fullscreen image background for logged out users
  • Simplified, custom Moodle homepage for logged in users
  • Two Column theme with blocks on the right
  • Support for Moodle's Socialwall Course Format.  If you use the Socialwall Course Format the evolve-D theme is the perfect companion as it contains super nice styling for the post interface and timeline posts.
  • Four image slideshow on custom homepage
  • Visual Separation of Topics/weeks.  Unique styling creates a visual separation of weeks/topics with the ability to customize the background color in theme settings.
  • Custom Logo
  • Marketing Spots at bottom of page
  • Fontawesome support
  • Custom Menu "My Courses" dropdown
  • General and Weather Alert notices for users
  • Custom Colors

Moodle 3.2 compatibility

Several people have asked if there will be releases of Evolve-D beyond Moodle 2.9 to be compatible with Moodle 3.2.  After much debate we decided the best option was to take many of the features from Evolve-D and to build a new theme moving forward called Fordson.  Fordson is a child theme of the new Moodle default theme Boost.  Fordson builds on Evolve-D by incorporating a better custom homepage with up to six marketing spots, custom page header image for both the site and individual courses, and of course... Style Presets which can transform your site to give it a unique look and feel! I am even working on an "evolve-D" style preset so that the content areas and blocks will have a similar look and feel to evolve-D with the great new features of Boost.

If you like Evolve-D, I hope you check out Fordson:  https://moodle.org/plugins/theme_fordson

Thank You for answer. It works, but I don't know how to change the login fields Entries in custom FrontPage (Username, Password, Login) - not their images in a Pix folder - as well as the phrase "Find and Enroll in Courses:". Maybe they are obtained from other file?

The other files are in the layout folder > includes. Any filename with "fp" on it is used for the frontpage displays. This was an initial release and I took a hammer to it. In the version two release I plan to clean up the code and use the language files for most items.

Is there a particular reason that the logo is not part of the top header, and is instead placed below the navigation breadcrumbs?

Hoang - The image for the background is uploaded in the Moodle Site Admin > Theme page. It is done via a theme page.

Nelson - This is a clone of the More theme with some enhancements. The logo is how the More theme handled the icon. We don't use a logo and instead just let the titles appear.

Hoang, Please see the 3 minute mark of the video with this theme. It explains how to turn on the custom frontpage of the theme. By default it operates with the normal Moodle homepage and login. You must activate it in the Theme Admin Pages.

Great theme thanks...Unfortunately, I can't get the this theme (installed with folder name "evolved") to show up in the ../Appearance/Theme/.... menu. I was able to successfully register the theme in the database after initially installing it (or at least I got the plug-in screen). I've done most of the obvious things (clearing caches, logging out and in, checking Linux permissions) but guess I must still be doing something silly. I'd be most grateful for any suggestions....Pete

Pete, there are two versions. There is a 2.7 version and a 2.8 version. Use the proper one for your Moodle version. They are not the same. Not quite sure what your issue might be.

Hi Chris. Strange. When I installed the Moodle 2.8 or the Moodle 2.7 version of Evolve-D theme in my Moodle 2.8.1 production site, the CSS seems broken. See: http://www.cambridgekids.org/moodle/course/view.php?id=4
    Login as Username: demo
    Password: demo
But when I installed the Moodle 2.7 version of the theme in my other Moodle 2.7.2 site, it works fine.

Frankie, Server returns a 500 error if you follow the link to the theme CSS. Look at page source code and find the CSS style link. Your server seems to be having an issue.
