Games in moodle for making learning fun

Can someone suggest some game plugins that can be used in Moodle to make learning fun for the students?
- I found 'Exabis Game' but it is not working on the latest Moodle version, I messaged them also, but no response was received from the developer.
- Level Up -XP, it is not showing any messages after completing any activity about how many points you earned for it, we need to check its report on the block. So, the interface is not that encouraging for the students.
Today I found one tool: https://www.openelearning.org/ , before spending time learning it, I would appreciate if someone could share their experience with this tool.

Looking forward to getting some ideas on adding games based on the question bank, especially for Mathematics.

I don't know openlearning tool, but here are some plugins for Moodle you might be interested in:

Game: crosswords and others (https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_game)
Quizventure: turns MC questions into a space shooter game (https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_quizgame)
Stash: let students collect and trade items throughout your course (https://moodle.org/plugins/block_stash)
Learning Map: student can follow an "adventure" path (https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_learningmap)
Treasure Hunt: Actionbound like activity (https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_treasurehunt)

In addition you could use the H5P Game map: https://www.olivertacke.de/labs/2023/03/02/heres-game-map-my-25th-h5p-content-type-thats-publicly-available/

I understand where you're coming from, looking for games to make learning fun... but the games in themselves don't make learning fun: it's the underlying mechanics of games that make them more foun to experience. But you could learn from how these games have been constructed and apply those lessons in your learning design, by incorporating:

- provide scaffolding for your participants -> support their learning, and gradually decrease their need to rely on this support, as to increase their independence.
- meaningful learning activities (there's a purpose to doing this, and this is clear to the participant)
- adequate and timely feedback a participant can actually use to improve
- failing an activity in itself is not an issue -> failing at something is an opportunity to receive feedback on how to improve
- a good storyline makes doing the activities more appealing
- create a flow channel (Flow: Psychology of Optimal Experience, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi) -> provide a mix of activities with varying levels of difficulty, some harder, some easier to guide your participants to their learning objectives

The activity modules in Moodle don't generally come with learning content, but provide some means to create those learning activities.

If Level Up doesn't work: check your cron tasks

Thanks Joost for your valuable inputs.
If possible can you share some resources link to see as an example, especially useful if it is related to mathematics?

Level Up is working but I think maybe I am not able to set up properly, as it effect is hidden from the users. As all the results are coming on the right side block, but as and when they earning those point. I mean user need to check it and not displayed by default or receive any message when they earn some points or update their rank.
My corn task status is showing like below:

I am not sure if I need to change some settings in it.
Please guide.

admin/cli/cron.php needs to be run more often than every 40 min, especially you have gaming activities where the reaction times are critical. 1 min is suggested. See Cron.

Check your task logs to see if one or more tasks are failing (site admin > server > Scheduled tasks / Task log). As Visvanath already mentioned, a > 40 minute gap between cron runs is an indication something's not working as it should.

Since it hasn't been explicitly mentioned, H5P is the default Moodle option for multimedia learning interactions: https://h5p.org/content-types-and-applications It provides activities with a stronger emphasis on visual & multimedia elements & interactivity, which is what a lot of people equate with being more game-like. It's already built into Moodle so you can just start using it. See: https://docs.moodle.org/402/en/H5P Of course, it's free & open source & supported by a number of academic & professional institutions so it's unlikely to disappear or be deprecated any time in the foreseeable future; an important consideration for course design elements.
