Facetoface

Activities ::: mod_facetoface
Maintained by Catalyst IT, Dan Marsden
Face-to-face activities are used to keep track of in-person (e.g. classroom) trainings which require advance booking. Each activity is offered in one or more identical sessions. These sessions can be given over multiple days. Reminder messages are sent to users and their managers a few days before the session is scheduled to start. Confirmation messages are sent when users sign-up for a session or cancel. This module may be of interest to administrators looking for a way to provide event management support for blended learning environments.

    @Christopher Wertz - can you please use the facetoface forum here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?f=999 to ask for help with this? - thanks.

    Is there a way to mark or record the attendees that signed up for the session actually showed up? Most times students sign up on the website but aren't able to show up at the time of the session. It would be great if this plugin would let us take attendance too.

    Hello, a silly question - can you run two versions of the face-to-face plugin?
    We are in the process of upgrading our version of Moodle (3.1.5+ (Build: 20170316)) and the old face-to-face plugin (2.3.1+ (Build: 2014030600) 2017121800) runs well.
    Our new Moodle (3.5.5+ (Build: 20190322)) on UAT server has a few issues with a null parameter (timezone). I wouldnt mind running both for comparison. If not possible, no problem.
    Thank you!

    @Mata, Moodie does not allow you to install the same plugin more than once.

    Hi,
    I'm trying to use this plug-in via Moodle Mobile app, but it said it is not yet supported, and asked me to open the page in a browser. Is there a setting that the site administrator needs to set to allow this plug-in to work on Moodle Mobile app?
    Thank you.

    There are no settings to control this as the plugin does not support the mobile app. Adding support requires a developer to spend time adding support. Pull requests and or funding are always welcome.

    So...I haven't been here in several months but noticed the question about session:location--Christopher did not followup with a post, but I think that is a weird language pack thing--in the 1.X version, there were several fields (location, room, and something else...venue?) but for the 2.X and above versions dropped all the location fields and made it possible to add fields of your own but the scripting in the language packs was never updated to reflect that, so even though the fields don't exist, the default email text says they do...if you create your own fields, you have to modify the language pack text if you want those fields to appear in the emails. Might be something to consider updating...

    Hello, apologies if this question has been posed/answered before. Is it possible to take the attendance during the session?

    @Dan Marsden - I just posted a question to the face to face forum. If you've got a moment, would be great if you could take a look:
    Can I push "Session over" sessions to the bottom of the list, or can I set a default sorting by session date in descending order (Newer sessions at top of list to older sessions at bottom).

    @Shane - best place to ask for facetoface help is in the forums - if you don't get a response there then you might need to work it out on your own sorry! Feel free to get in touch privately if you would like commercial level support - personally I have very little understanding on how facetoface works in Moodle - I've only occasionally fixed some specific things when reported by our clients and would need to go digging into code to work anything out! - good luck!

    Hi Dan,
    I work for the National Institute for Health Research and we rely heavily on this plugin at a national level for booking on to Good Clinical Practice and related trainings. We are currently running our LMS on 3.5 but are looking to upgrade to 3.7 or 3.8. I understand that the plugin is no longer supported but wondered if you had heard about functionality in later moodle iterations.
    Privacy api and reporting are integral so I wondered if you could provide any advice regarding continued use of this plugin / is there a potential for us to co-develop a newer fully supported version with you?

    @Tristan, I added support for the Privacy API last year, but the core_userlist_provider stuff is missing so if you are using Continuous Integration you may see unit test failures in 3.5.3 and higher due to the missing userlist functions and some privacy api functions will not cover facetoface completely (although this doesn't affect normal plugin usage). Other than the missing userlist functions, no one has reported any issues specific to 3.7 or 3.8 in the issues tracker. Feel free to report any issues you find to the tracker, and of course - pull requests are always really welcome! - There is a pull request in there related to another bug that someone in our AU team found but hasn't been tested, so feel free to comment on the pull request and let us know if you test it and it works for you! - thanks!

    Hi,
    I have installed this plugin version 3.4.3 on Moodle version 3.5+ and created a face to face event in a course. When I clicked on the training event, it's showing the below error for all roles including site admins:

    Sorry, but you do not currently have permissions to do that (View Face-to-Face activities and sessions)

    More information about this error

    Debug info:
    Error code: nopermissions
    Stack trace:
    line 816 of /lib/accesslib.php: required_capability_exception thrown
    line 79 of /mod/facetoface/view.php: call to require_capability()

    When I checked the permission in "Define roles", there is no activity called face to face.

    Please help to resolve this.

    Thanks!

    @chelsy - it sounds like you have not installed the plugin correctly - try deleting the mod/facetoface folder and re-instating it, also make sure you have the permissions on the folder set correctly - your web server needs to be able to read the mod/facetoface/db/access.php file. If that still doesn't help, the best place to ask for help with the face to face plugin is in the forums here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?f=999 - Good luck!
