Bootstrap Elements gives you the ability to add modal and toggles to your courses, helping to improve the layout of courses. It is in essence an improved "label" resource type with an opton allowing you to set content to display as a:

  • Modal box (popup box)
  • Toggle (expandable / drop-down content
  • Enhanced Label (with title + icon)
  • BlockQuote (same as above, blockquote with title / icon)

Font Awesome icons are selected through a searchable UI element smile

This will help teachers add more dynamic, interactive content within courses whilst consuming less space on the page:

Please note: This plugin will only work with themes that are based on Bootstrap and have support for for the Bootstrap elements referenced by this plugin.

We will expand this list to include other themes as we confirm their compatibility.

Future Plans:

  • Add color options
  • Look at other elements such as callouts and possibly Tabs / Accordion

If you have any other suggestions for improvement please let us know!

    I seem to have figured out my theming question: I can do this:
    .bootstrapelements h4 {
    font-size: 24px;

    I still can't get Toogle working in 2.9 in Flexibase theme, however.

    Correction: toggle started working in Flexibase. Possibly it was a caching issue.

    Hi Ricardo,

    I dont know, you would have to install and test it. If it does not it should not be hard to get it working assuming Pioneer uses bootstrap and Chris was prepared to help get the two working together.

    Hi, I'm currently running a Moodle 2.9.3+ site and planning to update it to Moodle 3 or 3.1 (sometime in the future), and i would love to have your plugin installed. I do, however, have a question: have you tested in a Moodle 3+ environment?

    I used this plugin for a short while on 2.8 with a customized version of Evolve-D theme (
    And then it stopped working. I'm wondering when will this feature be out, "Auto detect theme compatability and fall back on non supported themes (so multiple themes in the same site can be supported)"?

    We have it working on a test system on 2.9, but I don't see official support for 2.9 in the release notes. Our hosting vendor needs to see official support to review the plugin for installation on our system. Can the release notes be updated to include support for Moodle 2.9?

    I'm testing this plugin on a 2.7 and the resource hang out at creation with the the following error : Error output, so disabling automatic redirect. It goes through with the manual continue though.

    And the relevant trace :
    Did you remember to call setType() for 'bootstrapicon'? Defaulting to PARAM_RAW cleaning.

    line 1316 of /lib/formslib.php: call to debugging()
    line 288 of /lib/formslib.php: call to moodleform->detectMissingSetType()
    line 206 of /lib/formslib.php: call to moodleform->_process_submission()
    line 86 of /course/moodleform_mod.php: call to moodleform->moodleform()
    line 254 of /course/modedit.php: call to moodleform_mod->moodleform_mod()
    It looks good, but I'm concerned to push it on my production server with this though.

    Sorry to be blunt, but when implementing something, please read the specification: - you've omitted the 'hide' class and hence a Modal prevents links etc. from not working because its not hidden:

    An annoyed, Gareth.

    Plugin service info: For the record, I just made Jeremy (one of the two current maintainers) the lead maintainer of this plugin. I tried to contact Mike (the previous lead maintainer) via email and personal message on 15 December 2017 to get his explicit agreement. Mike has not replied. His last access to this site was 3 months ago. Given that Jeremy has already been a maintainer and he is the author of the recent update, I believe that changing the lead maintainer make sense and is in a public interest. In case Mike re-appears, we can communicate further with how to deal with the ownership of the plugin. Thanks.

    I love this plugin and it's great to see it's compatible with recent versions of Moodle.

    Does anyone know if this will become compatible with Moodle Mobile? At present the mobile page just shows 'bootstrapelements33' or a different number. I'm guessing this is a mobile/desktop app issue rather than the plugin.

    Any thoughts? Thanks!

    We second Dan's request for Moodle Mobile App support. On our mobile these activities are shown using green jigsaw icon and when clicked show message "Uh oh! Your organisation installed a plugin that is not yet supported. Contact the site administrator and tell them you want to use this activity with the Moodle Mobile app."
