BigBlueButton is an open source web conferencing system for online learning.  The goal of the project is to enable instructors to effectively engage remote students anywhere in the world.  The project supports live online classes, virtual office hours, and group collaboration with remote students.

BigBlueButton supports real-time sharing of slides (including whiteboard), audio, video, chat, emojis, breakout rooms, and screen.  It also record all content for later playback.

Like Moodle, BigBlueButton is open source.  The BigBlueButton project was started in 2008 by Blindside Networks.  In addition our work on BigBlueButton core, we created this BigBlueButtonBN Moodle plugin so you can fully leverage BigBlueButton's capabilities from within your Moodle site.

The BigBlueButtonBN plugin enables you to:

  • Create multiple activity links to online sessions within any course
  • Restrict students from joining a session until a teacher (moderator) joins the session
  • Launch BigBlueButton in a separate window
  • Create a custom welcome message that appears at the top of the chat window when joining the session
  • Specify join open/close dates for the session that appears in the Moodle's calendar
  • Record a session
  • Access and manage recordings

The best way to install is directly from moodle.org.  For a video walkthrough of installing the plugin, click the image below

You’ll notice in the video that BigBlueButtonBN module comes pre-configured with a test BigBlueButton server, aptly called test-install.blindsidenetworks.com.  This server is maintained by Blindside Networks maintains to help test your installation with BigBlueButton.  Blindside Networks also develops and maintains the BigBlueButtonBN plugin.

For information on setting up your own BigBlueButton server, see http://bigbluebutton.org/.

    Hi,

After the last BBB update (v2.26) I think the plugin is broken.

"Authentication failed due to missing credentials. 401"

I can access my BBB server vi "Api Mate", but not via Moodle.

Before "BBB v2.26" I was using "BBB v2.23" and it was just fine.

Thanks a lot for this great and useful plugin !
I'm looking where I can push one idea to improve it . The daily missing feature I have is : linking the Moodle Course's Groups with the Breaking Out Rooms groups. Able to link them automatically would be awesome !
    Best regards,
    Lionel

Not even sure if it is possible or not, but is there a way to have bbb open inside moodle (not open a 2nd tab/window)?

    Hi, I found one bug.
I defined a role, gave this role all BBB rights (mod/bigbluebuttonbn:recording, mod/bigbluebuttonbn:recording, mod/bigbluebuttonbn:meeting, mod/bigbluebuttonbn:join, mod/bigbluebuttonbn:view, mod/bigbluebuttonbn:addinstance) and assigned it at the course category level.
This role also has rights moodle/site:accessallgroups.
Members of this role do not see recordings created in a video conference when group mode in the settings of the videoconference was enabled.
And vice versa, they see the recordings that were created in the video conference when the group mode in the settings is turned off.
I tried this with versions 2.3.4 and 2.4-beta. All the same.
Please fix this bug so that users who have rights set at the course category level, which give them rights to view records, can see the recordings made in group mode settings of video conference.

    Hello to everybody.
I use the BBB moodle plugin since almost two years and it works very well. Thank you very much to mantainers.
In my school we produce several recordings every day and we see them in every room correctly.
Around one months ago we changed some configurations in the bbb server in order to make quicker the conversion process (we reduced the video quality and we activated more threads) and it seems to improved very much the server capability. The strange things is that the server today are processing very recent meetings but on the moodle side I didn't see the new recordings. The recordings are published slowly.
Do you know if there is a way to "push" the pubblication from bbb to moodle or to pull the links from the moodle side?
Thank you very much for you support.

    Good evening!
First of all, many thanks to all the developers of this great module! These days, this tool saves our daily lessons at a distance. Thank you! And then I have one more question. As of today, we have two different BBB servers, each with a different address. Can I also install the module twice to map the two servers? Thank you!

It would be a great feature to deploy a second BBB Plugin that provides Face2Face Videocalls for my contacts or course members, like in the Blockplugin https://moodle.org/plugins/block_videochat. The great disadvantage there ist, that i can't control the video server.

Hello! First of all, congratulations on the plugin. I understand and have been able to verify that when sharing screen the audio is not activated. That is, if I share a screen and put a video from my PC, the students do not hear it. Is there a way to activate audio when screen sharing?
Regards, and thank you very much.

    Hello again everyone.

I have BBB on my own server and I need to get reports of the participants connected to the meeting and how long they are connected.

Is there any way to get them?

Is there a moodle plugin that allows it? Or some other option?

Thank you very much in advance and I hope you can help me.
