BigBlueButton is an open source web conferencing system for online learning.  The goal of the project is to enable instructors to effectively engage remote students anywhere in the world.  The project supports live online classes, virtual office hours, and group collaboration with remote students.

BigBlueButton supports real-time sharing of slides (including whiteboard), audio, video, chat, emojis, breakout rooms, and screen.  It also record all content for later playback.

Like Moodle, BigBlueButton is open source.  The BigBlueButton project was started in 2008 by Blindside Networks.  In addition our work on BigBlueButton core, we created this BigBlueButtonBN Moodle plugin so you can fully leverage BigBlueButton's capabilities from within your Moodle site.

The BigBlueButtonBN plugin enables you to:

  • Create multiple activity links to online sessions within any course
  • Restrict students from joining a session until a teacher (moderator) joins the session
  • Launch BigBlueButton in a separate window
  • Create a custom welcome message that appears at the top of the chat window when joining the session
  • Specify join open/close dates for the session that appears in the Moodle's calendar
  • Record a session
  • Access and manage recordings

The best way to install is directly from moodle.org.  For a video walkthrough of installing the plugin, click the image below

You’ll notice in the video that BigBlueButtonBN module comes pre-configured with a test BigBlueButton server, aptly called test-install.blindsidenetworks.com.  This server is maintained by Blindside Networks maintains to help test your installation with BigBlueButton.  Blindside Networks also develops and maintains the BigBlueButtonBN plugin.

For information on setting up your own BigBlueButton server, see http://bigbluebutton.org/.

Hello, we have 2.1.2 version of BigBlueButtonBN with Moodle 3.1.2 and we've found a small problem.

When I use the "Description" section to include some text and any image (uploading a .png file), there is no problem to see this image when I enter to "Edit settings".
Also, I have enabled "Display description on course page" and it works fine. I can see the text and this image in the main page of my course. OK.
But when I use the link to enter the BigBlueButtonBN activity (http://www.mymoodlesite.es/mod/bigbluebuttonbn/view.php?id=...) the image is not displayed.

Using Firebug I can see that the code when the image fails says ... img src="@@PLUGINFILE@@/nameofmyimage.png" ...

But in the main page (when image is displayed ok), the code says ... img src="http://mymoodlesite.es/pluginfile.php/141991/mod_bigbluebuttonbn/intro/nameofmyimage.png" ...

    Is this a bug?
    Thanks

    Hello!

We have a Moodle 3.1 installation with BigBlueButtonBN 2.1.5 (2016051909). For now, we are using the test server to review the functionalities. Everything works very good, but at the momment when we try with the Breakout rooms, there is an error (ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT). Is this feature will no longer be available for testing?

    Thank´s a lot. Regards

We have a teacher that would like the Raise hand function to play a sound for the teachers of the course so he / she is notified that a student has raised hand. I cant seem to find a place to put issues or improvements on your github so hopefully you will answer here smile

    Hi Panaylotis,
Bugs should be reported through the tracking system. It is the best way for developers to work on them.
You can try this version https://github.com/blindsidenetworks/moodle-mod_bigbluebuttonbn/releases/tag/v2.1.10 it includes a hot-fix that adresses issue https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/CONTRIB-6900 directly related with the issue you are reporting.

An update should be released soon

    Hi Fred/Jesús.

Currently, when an user share desktop, we can only see, but have you considered to add the possibility to hear the audio of an application running in the user's computer that is sharing the desktop?

    Thanks for your attention

    Regards from Mexico!

    Hi,

When creating a Bigbluebutton activity in Moodle 3.3, the setting sections are not able to be expanded. As can be seen from the screen shot here: https://pan.baidu.com/s/1c2FHeu .

It has the same problem in Moodle default themes Clean and Boost themes. I am using Moodle 3.3, Php 5.6.27 and MySQL 5.7.16. I installed the latest version of the plugin version 2016051916. My institution is using Bigbluebutton for years. It is important to have the bbb activity work. I am really looking forward to seeing this problem to be fixed soon. Thank you for your help!
