This filter allows questions from the question bank to be embedded anywhere that users can input HTML. This can be used in various ways. It can be a way to make learning materials more interactive. For example you may wish to embed an interactive question in a Book, or a Page, or even a Label. Or perhaps a student asks in a forum about some tricky grammar concept, and you have a question that illustrates your reply, well now you can include that question in your reply, so the student can immediately test their understanding.

It is designed to be used with a Text Editor plugin.

This is the associated Atto editor plugin. However the Atto version is only supported for M4.5.

This is the associated TinyMCE editor plugin (which won't be visible until it is approved). That will be for M4.5/M5.0+

Installing the Embedded questions progress report is also recommended. This lets staff and students track what progress has been made at all the embedded questions in a course.

Questions can only be embedded if they have an idnumber set, and where the category the question is in has an idnumber. This is for two reasons: first, to make it harder to accidentally embed questions from your end-of-course exam; and second, because this is how the filter uniquely identifies the question to show.

Note: Essay is not an interactive question. Description is neither interactive nor a question.

This plugin was created by The Open University, UK.

@Przemek Kaszubski While the team isn't as big as it used to be, we are working on updating all of our plugins for M4.5 and releasing them as soon as possible. Unfortunately unexpected urgent work keeps appearing and distracts us, but I am hopeful we'll be releasing in April or early May.

    Hi.
as i read before the current moodle version 4.5 does not support this plugin. Does this mean to edit content is not working or even a created embedded link is not woking ?

Hi @Ole. We've got it working fine on our custom theme M4.5 install (with TinyMCE), so we're currently just double-checking it works with Core. We'll be releasing a new version soon.

Hello @chrisnelson , thank you for this great news and the perspective to receive your update soon. Currently there are 2 bigger german universities that ask me for a release schedule of this plugins and a date when we can fix this issue on their servers. Could you possible tell me a date, that i can give to my customers, approximately whenabouts a release is probable? Thank you VERY much!

    Hi
Sorry I am nagging, it's just there are 3 embedded question plugins, they all work with moodle 4.5., but I have to install them manually every week.
Please can you change your supported version to moodle 4.5 or 5 so that when we install moodle each week, it auto installs, this would save a lot of time. Thank you. Sorry again.

Just a note here that recently several other TinyMCE plugins have been updated , following Moodle 5 core's integration of https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-84884 ("The Tiny plugin "use" capabilities are defined in the wrong context level"). Could be that this also concerns the tiny_embedquestion plugin.

Currently the filter_embedquestion plugin does not work at all on any of my Moodle local sites: 4.4; 4.5 and, of course 5.0). It installs OK, I can view the settings. I have question bank categories with an idnumber , and within those categories I have questions with their own idnumber... but I do not see embedquestion in the Insert object list in the TinyMCE editor. I have also added the associated Atto editor plugin and checked all the settings... nothing works.
I am pretty sure I could get it to work just before I upgraded my Moodle to 4.5.4 from previous version (4.5.3?).
    Any help appreciated.

Hi @Joseph Rézeau, There are Core changes in Moodle 5.0 that stop Embed Questions from working (I think that the course question category no longer exists). We're currently publishing our plugins for M4.5, then working on M5.0 stuff.
