Sharing Cart

Blocks ::: block_sharing_cart

**Sharing Cart 4.4, release 3 is from 5 February 2024. Requires Moodle 4.2 and PHP 8.0** Download here or go to github: https://github.com/donhinkelman/moodle-block_sharing_cart/. Sorry for any confusion: Sharing 4.2 and Sharing Cart 4.3 were skipped here on the Plugins Database. And Sharing 4.4 was an overly ambitious name--it is actually for Moodle 4.3, and requires PHP 8.0. Sharing Cart 4.1, release 1 fixed numerous issues, add a section copy interface, and requires Moodle 3.11.4. You can choose the default way of clicking the basket icon, a direct drag-and drop method. For Moodle sites older than 3.11, download Sharing Cart 4.0, release 2, compatible with Moodle 3.6 through 4.0 (750+ sites are currently using Sharing Cart in Moodle 4.0). Please report any bugs or feature requests in the github repository: https://github.com/donhinkelman/moodle-block_sharing_cart. The Sharing Cart is a block that enables sharing of Moodle content (resources, activities) between multiple courses on your site. Sharing Cart 3.0 was submitted to Remote Learner for independent vetting and passed May 2016. In versions 3.x, new interface programmed by Praxis of Denmark was added, in addition to 'Section Copy' feature and Postgres compatibility (co-funded by Ulm University, Germany and Sapporo Gakuin University, Japan). Thanks also to Ponlawat Weerapanpisit and other contributors for programming assistance.

Beginning from the Global MoodleMoot Barcelona 2019, Praxis of Denmark is a co-maintainer of the Sharing Cart. As of 2023, the new partner company name is "moxis", focusing on Moodle development. Thank you, Tue Korsgaard and the Praxis/moxis team for your collaboration. Also, we wish to thank to Alex Bias and Kathrin Oswald of Ulm University for the Boost Union theme (compatible with Sharing Cart) and support by Ponlawat Weerapanpisit. The Sharing Cart is a block for duplicating course items into a personal library and an easy way to move those Moodle resources and activities between multiple courses on your site. With just three clicks, the Sharing Cart copies and moves a single course item from one course to another. It copies without user data--similar to the "Import” function in Course Administration. From version 2.3, user content in Forums, Wikis, Glossaries and Databases can optionally be included. In addition, items can be collected and saved on the Sharing Cart indefinitely, serving as a library of frequently used course items available for duplication. The Sharing Cart is viewable only by teachers, course creators and administrators. Working now in Moodle 4.0 and 4.1-- please report bugs to github. If you have an earlier version of Moodle, please download an earlier version of Sharing Cart that matches your site from this moodle.org plugins database. This forum here is for general discussion and vision for the Sharing Cart. Collaborative education means teachers need to keep sharing!

    Hi Don Hinkelman,
Regarding your last comment (Tue, 7 Jun 2022, 9:19 AM), it sounds like a great feature. One thing to think about, UX-wise, is that it would be great if the user (teacher/admin) could choose if he wants to see the "Pre-set Activities/Resources" or not, or at least would have the option to expand/collapse this section.

If a teacher doesn't care about the "Pre-set Activities/Resources", it would be a burden for him/her to see it all the time, and it would also make the sharing cart items list very long.
So such an option, as I suggested, would be a very nice touch lächelnd

    Thanks

    Hello Don,
Thank's for your plugin. I'am using Moodle 4.0.1+ , LearnR theme and I seems that your plugin doesn't work well with flex_sections. The basket is only to see for sections, not for activities. Is it a theme problem or flex_section problem ?
I hope my description is clear enough.
    Best regards.

@Don Hinkelman, I am embarrassed to say I don't know how/where to "post a feature request to [your] Github" - though I am willing if you send me a link and any non-obvious instructions.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
thank you for the brilliant plugin.
Unfortunately we have an issue. We use the Multi-Language Content (v2) Plugin for our section section names. The settings of this filter are, that ist should apply to Content and headings. Unfortunately, the filter doesn't work proper with the Sharing cart. Are there any settings to make the language filtering correct for the sharing cart?
    Best regards
    Christian

Hi Christian, I have just posted Sharing Cart 4.0, release 1 here in the plugins database. Please try it, but I suspect the Multi-language Content issue has not been dealt with. Could you post a detailed issue in our GitHub repository? Also, please note that we anticipate the issue with whole question bank copying will be solved in the upcoming Moodle 4.1 release.

Sharing Cart 4.0, release 2 just posted. This reverses the drag-and-drop style of copying items directly into the Sharing Cart. Now the basket icon is visible by default. Choose your preferred style of operation in the settings. Also some UI improvements.

    Hi folks,
Sharing cart is a super helpful tool when creating a new course and it works fine for most activitys.
Unfortunatually I am getting an Error while copying a Test activity (the standard activity of Moodle, not a plugin):
Error: Too few arguments to function restore_dbops::restore_get_question_categories(), 2 passed in [dirroot]\blocks\sharing_cart\backup\moodle2\restore_fix_missing_questions.php on line 52 and exactly 3 expected
I am using Moodle 4.0.5 now and the Error is still here since Moodle 3.11...
It would be nice if the next update will solve this Problem.
    Best regards

Hi! This is a great tool! When can a 4.1 version be expected?

    Hi,
I installed the actual plugin 4.0 R2 on Moodle 4.0.6+ and there ist a problem: There ist missing a carriage return while displaying the single lines. So I have to scroll the block to the right to find the single entrys.
Before the Update the displaying vertically in lines in one column was o.k.
    Best regards

Joachim, please install Sharing Cart 4.0, release 4. The backup/restore is fixed. However, Sharing Cart 4.0, release 4 now requires Moodle 3.11.4. Initial tests OK in Moodle 4.1. If the carriage return issue remains, could you post an issue in Github? https://github.com/donhinkelman/moodle-block_sharing_cart/issues

I consider it one of the best Moodle plugins. in version 4.1 it is happening to be horizontal and no longer one under the other, if you can see that

    Hi Don and Tue,

Do you have any thoughts on when a Moodle 4.3 compatible version might become available?

    Best regards,

Would it be possible for teachers of other courses on the site to be able to view the sharing carts of the site even if they are not teachers in all the courses?

What is the need there, Nellie? If you are trying to create a library of of commonly shared course items, in a special 'teachers' course where you can grab items easily. You would never want to peek into my sharing cart because it is such a mess. About 1gb of leftovers that I need to bulk delete.
