Deleting user - anonymising data

Deleting user - anonymising data

Hello all!

We've had a data deletion request from one of our Moodle platform learners and so I have gone into the user directory and clicked 'delete user'. They have successfully disappeared but I went to check our MySQL database and they are still there. Their email address has been randomised but their username, first name and last name are still remaining but with a 'yes' in the deleted user column.

Is there a way to completely delete a user out of the platform along with all their data or can I have all their identifiable data (first name, last name, username, email address) anonymised so they are no longer identifiable?

Thanks and have a great day!

Kind regards,
Kit.

Hi Kit,

To answer your question on completely deleted I refer to Michael Hawkins reply in this post:  https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=430819

Michael Hawkins replied here:
"In regards the deletion of Data Requests, we deliberately do not remove deletion requests. These are kept to serve as a paper trail that the deletion was actually processed and this is allowed under GDPR. It falls under the basis of Legal Obligation as the record is required to prove that you received, and acted upon the request in accordance with the legislation. Related to this we do not anonymise all data in the user record because it is required to identify the user that the request has been processed for."

As for you secondary questions - maybe someone else can answer it. The only way i know how to do this is either by database ór by doing a csv upload
