Even though I am usually cautious with generalizing rules like this, I think the said description is right.

Sorry to bring this up again but I just want to make sure: do "separate groups" in workshop really work in the way that Group A students get submissions only from other Group A students to review if random allocation or scheduled allocation is used?

The reason I'm asking is that I've read a number of threads and articles about this and the information is either not quite clear or conflicting. For example, one thread from this very forum (Moodle in English: Random allocation for separate groups) says that even in "separate groups" students get submissions to review from other groups if random allocation is used. The thread is closed now but it seems the issue didn't get resolved.

Or this manual Microsoft Word - Manage Workshop Quick Guide.docx (uow.edu.au) specifically says: "There is no option available in Workshop to manage submission and review of an individual’s allocated work within a group. Students can be excluded from the same group reviewing each other’s work but they can't be prevented from reviewing the work of students in other groups." (page 13)

Some of the suggestions are to create multiple workshops, which is highly impractical in my case. I really only need Group A students reviewing submissions of other Group A students.

That is what Separate groups mode in Workshop should do.
