DfWiki Developer Comes to Japan

Berna, one of the DfWiki developers will be coming to Japan in February.

The DfWiki will be taking over from the old wiki very soon. Some of the advantages are

  • It does not garble.
  • It is based on the same wiki as wikipedia (MediaWiki)
  • One can choose a variety of editors
  • Wiki page index, wanted pages, authors, etc can be displayed in custom blocks
  • It uses the most common standard wiki format
  • Typing this creates a new page, entitled "this".

Berna is particularly involved in the wikibook development.  He will be in Japan in February. He may be coming to Yamaguchi.

Would anyone else be interested in a thorough introduction to the DfWiki from one of the developers, in Yamaguchi?

I may even be able to arrange accomodation. If he comes, I plan to show him a bit of Yamaguchi.

Tim

Allowing myself to repeat myself - the developer of the DfWiki will probably be coming to Yamaguchi in February.

Those interested in the functions of the new module are very welcome to come.

At the moment, there is only the wiki developer, myself and one other Moodle user (from Nagasaki).

I will also take the opportunity to introduce the use of the new iMoodle (Moodle for Mobile/Keitai)by Jamie Pratt.

Please try the iMoodle (using password and username tomx where x=1to31, or apply for a password.) at
http://jamiep.org/mobile/
or
idaigaku.com

A fuller list of the DfWIKI's merits is here appended below.

* multiple language wiki ( I've seen this only in old moodle ) ewiki/dfwiki(wikipedialike)/wysiwyget
* easy configurable blocks
  - index/page tree
  - page tree/from current
  - user contribution pages ( a kind of rss block to track the pages where the user
posted )
  - built in search engine ( within page names and content )
  - new page block
  - page synonimous
  - user permisions at page level
  - page wishlist ( list of pages referenced but not created yet)
  - orphaned pages ( very important to keep a coherent wiki net)
* Atachments and images
* Integration with moodle, of course
* backup and restore integrated with moodle
* import / export (with the hability to "merge" wikis )
* export to a static website
* works fine with non latin charsets
* and the new module wikibook wich I'll explain in detail in the future whe'n I've got time ...

Do I forget something??
Ludo
ps list of main missing items that will come soon...before summer time
* wikipedia files import
* discussion pages / page comments insertion
* grades ( see last tim takemoto post)
* templates
* ampliation of markup to meet mediawiki standard
* export to PDF - open office - rtf throught wikibook
* export to lesson (see messages with bernard in gen dev forum) and petr's book module
*... suggestions are wellcome
