Does changing the url of a site have any consequences?

Does changing the url of a site have any consequences?

Our old site is at: http://moodle.[domain].com.

I'm setting up a new version of Moodle at http://newmoodle.[domain].com

After it is done, I would like to delete the old site and move the new one to moodle.[domain].com again.

Is changing the location of a site fairly easy and painless?

Will it have any side effects? Eg. If I have uploaded images and files to a repository, will the links still work? Will the courses all still function?

Thanks.

Mostly, fine...

Broken links was what I was afraid of, especially in all the courses I've just restored.

But if it seems like it can be fixed with one search and replace query in the database, then that's pretty good.

I could definitely convince the technician to at least do a backup and try it (for a box of muffins!).
