is there a way to make new journal edits show up in the Recent activity block?

I'm not an expert on programming and Moodle, but it looks to me like that part of the Journal code has never been updated to work with the new log system in Moodle since version 2.7. In fact most of the Journal code for printing recent activity is the same in every version all the way back to Moodle 1.9.19.
In other words, that part of Journal works in Moodle 2.6 and lower but has not been updated to work with Moodle 2.7 through Moodle 3.1.
New code to fix the problem of new journal edits not showing in the Recent Activity block should be in the next release of Journal.
