Multiple choice question with multiple answers but limited

Hi all,

I have an instructor requesting the following with a multiple choice question:

- the students can select multiple answers

- the students are not penalized for any incorrect answers

- the students can only select a certain number of answers

So far the best way we can set this up (version 2.6.6) is to instruct students to only select a certain number of answers, have a penalty for each incorrect answer, and inform the students that they should only select 5 maximum and that they will be penalized for anything incorrect. The drawback to this is that a student who selects 5 answers and only 2 of the 5 are correct answers will receive zero (there are 10 possibles with 5 correct and 5 incorrect).

The instructor would prefer that the students receive credit for every correct answer (so if they choose 5 answers and only get 2 out of 5 correct , they would receive 2/5 of the total grade for the question.)

Does anyone know of a question type that does this? Or a better workaround solution?

Cheers,
Dave

Will that not mean they will all click all options "to be on the safe side"

Hi Marc,

I'm a little unclear what you mean. Is it:

1) In our workaround, will they  "click all options "to be on the safe side""? If they do, they will get 0 (5 correct minus 5 wrong.)

Or is it: 2) In the requested question type or settings option, will they  "click all options "to be on the safe side""? The request is for a setting on the question that allows only 5 options to be selected. Ie. Disable their ability to select all the choices...
