Filters: PoodLL Filter

Maintained by Picture of Justin Hunt Justin Hunt
The PoodLL filter enables audio and video recording in Moondle, and allows you to put widgets such as stopwatches and whiteboards into HTML areas. It is a pre-requisite plugin for the PoodLL Repository, PoodLL Database Activity Field, Poodll Assignment plugins, Poodll Recording Question type and PoodLL Atto/TinyMCE plugins.
Moodle 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9

Using the PoodLL filter you can add a variety of widgets to your courses. These include a stopwatch, dice, countdown timer, flashcards, and a whiteboard. You can do this by hand crafting PoodLL filter strings, or by using the PoodLL Atto or TinyMCE plugins. More information on PoodLL is available at .

The other PoodLL mods, PoodLL Assignment Submission type, PoodLL Assignment Feedback type,  PoodLL Recording Question Type, the PoodLL Repository, PoodLL for Atto, PoodLL for TinyMCE and the PoodLL database field all require the PoodLL filter.

NB As of PoodLL 3, version 2016081401, PoodLL requires an annual subscription fee, though a free 14 day trial is available. A registration key can be obtained at :

Before installing, be sure to ready the "Getting Started" guide.

This plugin is part of set PoodLL.

Balazs, its best if you post these questions in the PoodLL forum. Its easier to have "conversations" there and later for others to get the benefit of what we discussed. I have posted there now.

Will. My lawn is now a jungle and my kids unwashed and unshod, and literallycanvas is still a problem child. I am working on it, but if it holds things up, I will just issue a recommendation to use LiterallyCanvas. That would be a bad result though. Going forward the Forum is the best place for these discussions, yes.

...blast .... I mean "I will just issue a recommendation to use DrawingBoard.js." Thats not a great result apart from the hassle, but also because the saved vector data (that allows students to continue drawing where they left off in assignments and questions) would be lost.

You need to put the "poodll" directory into the [PATH_TO_YOUR_SITE]/filter directory. You will see the "poodll" directory after you have unzipped the plugin.

The filter does not display the Whiteboard recorder on my Moodle 2.9 site. I believe it is due to the javascript not fully loading jquery before running, since I am seeing the following fatal error:

TypeError: $ is undefined in drawingboard.min.js

I was able to work around this by wrapping the drawingboard.min.js code in a document ready method, but this issue should be addressed in the next release. Unless this is being caused by something on my end?

No this is a bug that occurs with PoodLL in Moodle 2.9. It is a known issue in the current PoodLL filter. It will be fixed when PoodLL is released for Moodle 3.0. It is to do with the new AMD javascript loading mechanism that Moodle introduced in Moodle 2.9

    Hello Justin,
I uploaded your latest plugin updates on our platforms: Moodle 2.9.2+ (Build: 20150924), registered them, and the following hapened: ALL the blocks from the course using poodll filter disapeared and the grid view mode doesn't open the sections windows anymore. Debugging doesn't show any errors... it all comes back to normal when I deactivate the poodll filter...
Some advice would come in very handy! sourire Thanks in advance

The PoodLL filter was extensively refactored (ie code tidied up, files deleted, files added, code moved around etc). One person reported a problem when the Moodle auto install left some old files in place. This was fixed by removing the plugin and re installing it. Thats quite a hassle for the filter because the other plugins all depend on it. But that is the best thing to try.

Before you try that, you could:
    i) purge your cache and see if it makes a difference (probably not) : [your_moodle_url]/admin/purgecaches.php

ii) set to debugging up to full (developer) in site admin->development. And while you are there, set it to send error messages to the browser.
Then go to a malfunctioning page and see if you get any interesting looking errors.

OK so a note to anyone who may update this plugin - Also ensure any additional Poodll plugins are updated.

As they all rely on this, they all attempt to include a file. However, that file does not exist since one of the latest updates to this plugin. This seems to have caught people out. E.g, the Atto plugin stops working because the Filter is updated. This in turn stops the User Profiles loading.

    The more you know...

Moodle question types will not offer the uninstall option unless all instances of the question in question banks have been removed. Delete all your PoodLL questions, and try again.
