Moodle 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, 3.9, 3.10, 3.11

It supports the assessment of students’ competences and allows for an individualized assignment of tasks according to the students’ competence level.

Please note: Exabis competencies has been developed for several years and has no connection to the competence-framework integrated in MOODLE.

Key features are:

  • individualization to personalise learning processes by assigning specific tasks to all or certain students
  • working with a weekly schedule using a drag&drop interface teachers to work collaboratively, sharing tasks and materials within the framework of a competence grid
  • teachers can create digital competence grids (collaboratively with the tool KOMET which can be found at www.edustandards.org or within the block itself)
  • using the free app DAKORA for both teachers and students to provide materials and upload solutions to MOODLE
  • creating competence profiles of students related to their level, progression in a competence field and achievements
  • comprehensive reporting of students’ achievements, competence levels and soft skills

As a basis, competence grids are used. They can be used across courses. These grids contain different competences that can be attained in a certain subject area (topic). Depending on the level of competences a student has attained, teachers can assign different tasks, which supports the personalization of the students’ learning process.

Competences can be assigned to students by teachers or automatically - for example after a student’s task is completed. Students themselves can link their work to competences or competence fields - hence self-reflect on their activities and establish their individual competence profiles. Portfolio files (artefacts) can be linked to competences as well.

Teachers can assign learning paths to students and provide them with different (Moodle-)activities and materials on various difficulty levels.

Competence grids can be created in a Moodle course or collaboratively at www.edustandards.org (export of xml-file).

Exabis competencies is part of a suite of three main modules:

Exabis ePortfolio
portfolio work

Exabis Competencies - Competence grids
competency-based education connecting learning products  to competences and defining personalized learning paths using digital competence grids and. Base (together with exabis ePortfolio) for the DAKORA-App

Exabis student review
course spanning reporting tool of students’ achievements including assessment of soft skills.

The module can be used standalone or as part of this suite. Advantage of using all three modules together is that learner driven learning paths can be established – guided by trainers, self-paced, competency-based and personalised.

The free app DAKORA (working with digital competence grids) allows work with two of the modules (exaport, exacomp) with a simplified and innovative interface for tablets and smartphones which can be downloaded from all app stores. All data of the app is stored in MOODLE.

Thank you for sharing this great tool with the open source community!

This set of plugins looks like it has HUGE potential--quick question: is there any easy way to import existing Moodle Competency Frameworks?

I tried to do it and it looks like the formats are not currently compatible, which is too bad since there could be a lot of synergy between these tools....

    Thank you!

Hello Joseph, thank you for your remarks. At the moment there is no interaction between the frameworks. The reason for that is, that we are still admidst the development of the module for our customer. We have thought about it, as soon as we will find some funding for the interface, we will gladly implement it. However our concept is a little different, we work with a course-spanning concept and digital competence grids used for individualization. For this we have also developed an app to work this setting (it is called Dakora), best regards, Andreas

This is a very useful plugin. thanks for the great work. I managed to understand how the plugin works, but I could not figure out how to get a competency radar as in this picture . I am using Moodle 3.8 and the plugin version 4.6.4. In the Competence profile i see the table in blue circles. my question is how to get competency radar or other similar visualization?

Is the Dakora App (Access via Webbrowser) integrated in this Plugin? On the gtn Website you can Access an webbased Version.
Thank you for replies and some hints

Hello, the app can be downloaded from the Appstores for ios/android/windows - it is a standalone app that saves all data to Moodle - it uses webservices for that. For a webbased-Version you can use the version from our website. Regards, Andreas

Thanks Andreas. In Baden-Württemberg the BelWü hosts and supports the plugins. But I want to make a test installation for the competence grids and Dakora on a dedicated Moodle Installation. So I am searching for the Plugins BelWü uses. You mean, I should use the Link https://gtn-solutions.com/dakora and put the URL of my Moodle installation in when Exabis is installed ?
Another question to the installation: is it possible to install the plugins and use Moodle as its used before installation? Thank You!

Yes, please do so, just enter the URL to your installation. All data is kept in Moodle within our modules so you can use Moodle as before without interference, best regards Andreas

Trank you. I try it. Is it possibel to get a full documentation about the installation and administration auf the Exabis Plugins in School? Competence grids, Lernentwicklungsberichte, E-Portfolio and so on?
Can you give me a hint where I can find the plugin Exabis Cleanup? I is also recommend in the BelWü Manual for Dakora, best regards Stefan

    Hello !
Exabis compétences, even when deactivated and not installed in a course, produces the impossibility to validate another mode of validation of completion of modules than the manual mode. Throughout the course all resources and activities are affected.
Uninstalled, the validation possibilities are restored again.
    Greetings to UTM Munich!

Hello Daniel, somehow we cannot reproduce this error. Can you please describe a workflow where this happens. What are "modules" that you refer to? Regards Andreas
  • Mon, Apr 12, 2021, 2:54 PM

after installing this Plugin it's no longer possible to activate any activity completion without given "expect completet on"-date.

I just want to "require view" für complete the activity (files, links,...). When Exabis Competencies is installed this is no longer possible -> is this a bug?

tested with moodle 3.9.6 and 4.0dev alpha...

    regards Alex

Hello Alexander, thank you for the description, we now localized the problem. You can download the new source from https://github.com/gtn/exacomp/tree/experimental - it is a stable version but with the bugfix, it should work now, regards Andreas
