This plugin prints a word count in the bottom right-hand corner of your TinyMCE HTML editor (see screenshot) which updates as you type.
In Moodle 2.7 and later TinyMCE is no longer the default editor, so to make use of this plugin's functionality you would need to either:
- (As a site admin) change the default editor for your Moodle site by going to Site administration -> Plugins -> Text editors -> Manage editors and moving TinyMCE to the top of the list, or
- (As a normal user) edit your profile and select TinyMCE as your preferred text editor.
This plugin was originally developed to be used in conjunction with the new word limit functionality which was introduced in Moodle 2.7 for the online text assignment submission type. As such, it modifies the behaviour of the standard TinyMCE wordcount plugin (which is included in Moodle but not actually enabled or used anywhere) to make it use the same word counting criteria as Moodle's internal word count function, so that the word counts reported are consistent with each other.
