The Video Time product family is a set of plugins to integrate videos from Vimeo and Youtube into moodle. In addition, teachers can add videos directly in the activity as files or use a link to the video file. The base activity is free to use and makes embedding videos into moodle super easy.

The pro add-on provides a lot of features like tracking, resume, in-activity, app support, privacy support, next activity and many more.

Premium (formerly: Business) connects moodle to Vimeo, allowing the teacher to simply choose the video from within moodle.

Video Time 1.8 supports videos hosted on Youtube and Vimeo. Teachers can also upload a video or audio file directly into the Video Time activity.

Potential privacy issues

Video Time makes viewing videos hosted on external platforms easier. There are no reports on participants activities in the free version, except for the usual log entries. However, Vimeo and Youtube are external services, which might collect user data.

Is it possible for Video Time to support videos in local Moodle server?

@synnac song : I'm afraid this is not the Use Case. Main value of Video Time is to integrate videos hosted on vimeo (and probably YouTube in the future according to other posts I read). They are huge advantages to do so ; multi format (from 360 to 1080 .) automatic encoding of your videos, High streaming perfmances , robust and world class js video player, and last but not least IP (Intellectual Property) protection of your video material. Trying vimeo is adopting vimeo and later video time.

Benoit is correct in so far that the current version of Video Time only supports Vimeo videos. And he's also correct that using a streaming service like vimeo is certainly a good idea.

BUT: in the next version of Video Time (1.7), we will add support for video files (e.g. an mp4) and Youtube. Video files can be either uploaded directly to the Video Time activity. Or, you can place them on any kind of storage solution and use the link to the video file in Video Time. All pro features will be supported for both video files and Youtube (e.g. tracking, completion, reports, resume, prevent fast forwarding etc.)

We'll release a beta version soon here in the plugin DB for testing purposes. If you would like to support us in testing, let me know (via message on moodle.org or via chat.bdecent.de) and I'll provide credentials to one of our testing sites. Functionality wise, it's all working already, we're currently in the progress of testing everything)

Video Time1.7 will be released in time for Moodle 4.1 (and will support 4.1, 4.0 and 3.11 — if you need 3.9 support, let us know and we'll consider that).

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Stefan,
Please add me your beta list to look at YouTube support.
We have a question about new version of plugin >> Does YouTube version of plugin come with same feature of Vimeo plugin?
for example; continue the video where we left, reporting of watching duration, completion etc.

    Best regards
    Mustafa

    Hi Mustafa,

will do! We currently plan to make the beta version available on labs.bdecent.de next week. (I'll confim that here)
Video Time 1.7 will support all pro features for both YouTube and Video links/files. That includes reporting, tracking, resume, prevent fast forwarding etc.
We have not yet decided when we'll add support for the repository features, but likely in 1.8 (spring 2023).

    Hope this helps!

    Good day,
I have just come across this plugin. I would like to enquire whether Video Time would enable us to add a Vimeo-hosted video as 'Linked media' in a Lesson? I.e., would Vimeo become available as a repository from which files can be selected to be added as 'Linked media', if we add Video Time to our site?

    Hi Elizmarié,

no, that's not possible. Video Time does not act like a (moodle) repository, i.e. you cannot embed a Video Time player using the file picker.

But, using in-activity mode, you can embed Video Time anywhere in your site. In a nutshell: you create the Video Time activitiy with the video/audio of your choice (Vimeo, Youtube, locally or externally hosted file), then use the Video Tile filter to embed it for example in a block. Or simply on top of a page in a lesson.
Because Video Time supports resume, the student will be able to continue the video automatically where they left off.

In-activity and resume are both available in Video Time Pro (https://bdecent.de/videotime).
Here's a demo course where you can see how it works: https://videotime.bdecent.de/course/view.php?id=8
And here's a test site where you can create your own course and test it: https://labs.bdecent.de/

If you have any questions, please contact us using chat.bdecent.de.

    Hope this helps!

    Morning Mohannad,

You can see which version is compatible with which moodle version on https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_videotime/versions

The last version that is officially tested on 3.7 is video time 1.3.4

I’m sure you are aware that 3.7 is very outdated and not supported for a long time. It is strongly recommended to upgrade as soon as possible.

    Best
    Stefan

    Hi Stefan,

Thanks a lot for the prompt response. Yes, I am in the process of upgrading the Moodle version but that will take time. I tried version 1.6.1 but i am getting error: Uncaught TypeError: VideoTime is not a constructor

I will give the old version a try as well. Thanks again!

Hi Davor, because it's just a bug fix release. As I wrote in the release notes, the 4.2 version is coming soon, we're working on it.
