This module allows students to enrol themselves in a group within a course. The teacher can choose from which groups the students can chose, and the maximum number of students allowed in each group.

Depending on the activity settings, the students can view the members of each group before making a choise, and change their selected group until the deadline.

This is a great module - I'm running 2.6.2 and can't seem to add any numbers to either the general limit or the group size. Here's a screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/roHjYY9wVU8F

Any tips on what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi Bonnie,

I just saw from your PM that you have figured it out. Here it is for consistency's sake: the "Limit the number of responses allowed" setting has to be set.

Backup and Restore doesn't work with Moodle 2.5.4 (mod_choicegroup_moodle26_2014010100)

The Activity is restored, but choice options is nil, and responses is 0 too.

Hi Nicolas, Great plugin! using it very well!

I just wanted to ask if there is a way to re-arrange the order of choices once they are created?

    i.e.

    choice 1
    choice 2
    choice 3

now if I want to add a choice called 'choice 1.2', this will appear below 'choice 3'.

I don't mind if we have to move the choices manually or if they are alphabetical, just that they can be re-arranged.

    Help!

    Thanks

    Simon

    Hi Simon,

There is no way at this time to rearrange the order of the choices. However, this problem can be circumvented (albeit not very elegantly) by doing one of the following:

    - Create a new activity and add the choices is the wanted order: the choices done so far will be "reported" into the new activity, as the group memberships are already set. Once you're happy with the new setup you can remove the original activity and replace it with the new one.
    OR
    - Edit the current activity and (using the group selection drop-down menus) set each group (choice) in the wanted order.

Hi Nicolas, Thank you for your speedy reply!

    When you mentioned:

"Edit the current activity and (using the group selection drop-down menus) set each group (choice) in the wanted order."

Does modifying the choice names and groups whilst users have already 'joined' the groups (so that a 'new inserted' choice 'appears') disrupt users?

    Thanks

    Simon

    Hi Simon,

No, it won't disrupt anything as the choices aren't recorded in the activity but only in the groups. As long as you don't delete any groups (in the course groups management settings), the members of each group (and hence the "choices" of the Group Choice activity) will not change.

Hi Nicolas, does Group Choice work in 2.7?

    Hi Matthew,

Thanks for the reminder. I just uploaded the new version, which you can as of now download directly from this page. Note the the current (newest) version only supports Moodle 2.7 and above – so for people interested in using the plugin on older versions of Moodle, please check the "Download versions" link near the top of this page.

New version available, from now on exclusively for Moodle 2.7. New feature: improved group/grouping selection interface, thanks to ETHZ LET.

Hi, Nicolas. Love your plugin. When we click on View 20 (or whatever) responses it comes up with a table with black writing on a dark blue background. Can that be changed so there is more of a contrast?

    Jane,
This is a HTML table, and is normally designed/displayed as any other user table in Moodle. In Moodle's standard "clean" theme, the table header is black on white background. In our custom theme, it is black on light blue. So yes, this can be changed, it is a theme issue.

    Hi Nicolas,
Is it possible to only allow students from within a current group to form a sub-group using Group Choice?
(Sorry about the duplication of this question.)

    Hi Mike,

I'd say you could achieve this using groups and groupings. For instance, create groupings A (containing group a only) and grouping B (containing group b only), and also create groupe a1, a2, a3 and b1, b2, b3. Then you could create 2 group choices, and limit one to grouping A and the other to grouping B. Then chose from groups a1, a2, a3 in the first activity, and chose from groups b1, b2, b3 in the second activity.
