Moodle plugin which tries to overcome some fixed appearance behaviours of Boost's nav drawer in a clean way

Since the release of Moodle 3.2, Moodle core ships with a shiny new theme called "Boost". While Boost does many things right and better than the legacy theme Clean, it also has some fixed behaviours which don't make sense for all Moodle installations. One of these behaviours is the fact that the look and feel of the nav drawer (the menu which appears when you click on the hamburger menu button) is hardcoded and can hardly be configured by administrators.

Please see README file for details about the usage and features of this plugin.

This theme has reached end of life.

This plugin will not be upgraded for Moodle 4.x. Please consider using our Moodle 4 theme theme_boost_union which supports several aspects of this plugin's feature set.

    Hallo Alexander,
    Jorge.

    Dear Alexander,
    Could you give an example with a Font awesome icon? I try different solutions but no icon appears.
    Regards
    Mikael

    Hi Mikael,

    normally, we don't provide support here in the comments section (see note above).

    But I will make an exception.

    This is a custom node setting which we are using locally and which includes icons:
    -----------------------
    Site administration quicklinks|/admin/search.php|en
    -List of users|/admin/user.php|||||fa-users
    -Manage courses|/course/management.php|||||fa-graduation-cap
    -Capability overview|/admin/tool/capability/index.php|||||fa-check-square-o
    -Notifications|/admin/index.php|||||fa-wrench
    -----------------------

    I will add a similar example to the example section of the plugin's settings soon.

    Cheers,
    Alex

    I just tested it with 3.7 and it's working properly, just in case anyone is wondering if it works...

    Unfortunately, under a fresh installation of 3.7.1, this plugin just doesn't seem to function correctly - so I personally think its compatibility should be downgraded to 3.6 until this is fixed. The issue is that the settings under Course nodes > Insert course nodes to Boost's nav drawer and the settings under Collapse course nodes in Boost's nav drawer appear to have no effect i.e. no sections, activities or resources menu items are added, and no collapsing functionality is offered.

    An issue has been filed on the bug tracker in relation to this problem, by the way: https://github.com/moodleuulm/moodle-local_boostnavigation/issues/43

    Roland, as you may have read on Github, this issue has been fixed now and a new version has been published.

    I tried this with the "classic" theme in 3.7 and it doesn't work. Just saying if anyone was wondering.

    Hi Ian L,
    I think that this is expected. The plugin is called "*Boost* navigation fumbling", and is it name suggests, it suppose to work with the "Boost" theme (that includes the navigation drawer).
    The "Classic" theme is different.

    This is more or less correct. While "Classic" is also a Boost child menu, it does not have the Nav Drawer which this plugin is manipulating.

    Hi Alexander, thanks very much for this plugin! It is very helpful and we use it all the time. I found one issue with local_boostnavigation | removeparticipantscoursenode. In the description you mention it should not cause any problem but I found the following. It definitely removes the Participants node for regular users which is good. However when being an admin I want to enrol participants through Course Administration / More / Users / Enrolled users (/user/index.php?id=XX). Normally the breadcrumb stays intact and I can go back to the course using the breadcrumb. When the participants node is being removed the breadcrumb becomes Dashboard / Site pages / Participants and I can not use the breadcrumb to navigate back to the course. Could you have a look at this issue and let me know if it could be solved? Already tried to hide Participants node through css but cannot pin-point the class.
