Filters ::: filter_urlresource

This Filter is required for the Socialwall Course Format. The Moodle Socialwall will transform your Moodle course into a social learning platform. This includes a familiar post interface, timeline of posts, filtering of the timeline, and integration with Moodle's activities and resources. A social learning format allows teachers to pick up the tool and begin using it right away.

This plugin is part of a set of plugins belonging to the socialwall course format https://github.com/synergylearning/moodle-format_socialwall

This is a new filter than can be turned on for the course that will convert a URL resource type http link that is added and will grab the title and a photo similar to how facebook does from the remote website to display it on the course page. If you use the course format socialwall and filter is active then:

  • Students may select an image and edit a description for substitution when posting a link
  • Teacher may select or change an image and a description for any existing mod url

A super big thank you to REMC Michigan http://remc.org for supporting and funding this project.

Special thanks to Moodle Partner Synergy Learning http://www.synergy-learning.com for doing the hard work of developing this course format.

    Hi, thanks for sharing this. I was able to to test the functionality successfully together with the Socialwall format. As with other plugins in the set, I have to insist on providing the missing links to the bug tracker and source code repository.
    Also (and again, this applies to all the plugins in the set), it would really help to focus the description and the README in each plugin on the unique features of the particular plugin. It does not help to read over and over again what these plugins turn our courses to. Much more valuable information in this case is found in the phpDocs block of the filter.php and that is what I (and I believe our users here) would expect to find in the plugin description. That is, what _exactly_ this filter does. Then they can decide themselves if they really need/want it.

    I'll be happy to approve this together with other plugins in the set once the missing meta-information are provided (as described at https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Plugin_contribution_checklist#Meta-data)

    Not quite sure what the issue is Marcia. This is meant to be used in conjunction with the Socialwall Course Format. It is part of a set of plugins. When you add a URL Resource it will try to grab the image from the link along with a description that is displayed in the Socialwall timeline.

    Hello

    I am experiencing a little problem- maybe the filter settings are wrong. When I write a URL socialwall transofrms it into a link but provides no teaser image.

    I am using the latest socialwall and the 2.9 version of this filter and am running moodle 3.0.1
    Thanks

    I seem to be suffering the same issue: when I write a URL in a socialwall post, it transforms it into a link but provides no teaser image. I get a menu to refresh the images (but never get one). I'm using the latest socialwall and version 2015082700 of the filter, release = '2.8' and Moodle 3.2. Is it a filter settings issue ?
