With this block, the admin (or designated user) can assign mentors to students. Mentors can then access easy-to-read “progress reports” for their mentees. The admin (or designated users) can also create automated notifications that are sent to teachers, mentors or students based on pre-selected criteria (example: notification is emailed to mentor and student if student has not logged in for 7 days).

This block provides a user-friendly way of pairing mentors with students. Currently, Moodle does not have an effective way of managing the mentor role. By using this block, parents, tutors, or other “helpers” are able to track the progress of particular students across multiple courses. The block exists at the site level. When a mentor logs in, his/her mentees (students) are listed inside the block. When the mentor clicks on the name of a student, a progress report is shown. This report includes grades, submissions, feedback, etc. from all relevant courses. Along with defining mentors and mentees, administrators can also create “notification rules” that are automatically sent (email or SMS) to teachers, mentors or students based on pre-selected criteria (example: send email notification to mentor and student if student has not logged in for 7 days and grade is less than 50%).

    Hi Fernando. Thanks for sharing this block with the community. The provided UI and features look quite impressive. However, while reviewing the code, I spotted multiple issues with the way how the block is implemented overall. I reported them into individual issues in your bug tracker. I am afraid there are significant changes required prior we can approve the block in this Plugin directory.

    Thanks for providing an updated version of your plugin. I just left several comments in your bug tracker. Particularly, some issues you simply closed as "fixed" are apparently still present. It would help if your issues comments provides a bit more information on what and how was actually fixed. I have to mark this as needing more work again. Thanks for your patience with the review and approval process.

    So, to clarify...this is a block intended for use by ADMIN to (a) set up mentor/mentee relationships and (b) produce reports FOR mentors/mentees? The block/reports are not accessible to the mentors? Just trying to understand the intended use of this block.

    Once I get that figured out, I'll happily put it to work and provide feedback.

    Did you make two new roles (see above): http://northernlinks.ca/docs/mentor_mentee_install.pdf
    Every mentor can see his of hers mentees and their reports.

    Hello William, In short, the admin sets up the mentor/mentee relationship. When a mentor logs in, she will see a list of her mentees within the block. When a mentor clicks on the name of a mentee, a progress report is shown.
