NED - Mentor Manager

Blocks ::: block_fn_mentor
Maintained by Fern Oliveira
Part of set NED.
With this block, the admin (or designated user) can assign mentors to students. Mentors can then access easy-to-read “progress reports” for their mentees. The admin (or designated users) can also create automated notifications that are sent to teachers, mentors or students based on pre-selected criteria (example: notification is emailed to mentor and student if student has not logged in for 7 days).

This block provides a user-friendly way of pairing mentors with students. Currently, Moodle does not have an effective way of managing the mentor role. By using this block, parents, tutors, or other “helpers” are able to track the progress of particular students across multiple courses. The block exists at the site level. When a mentor logs in, his/her mentees (students) are listed inside the block. When the mentor clicks on the name of a student, a progress report is shown. This report includes grades, submissions, feedback, etc. from all relevant courses. Along with defining mentors and mentees, administrators can also create “notification rules” that are automatically sent (email or SMS) to teachers, mentors or students based on pre-selected criteria (example: send email notification to mentor and student if student has not logged in for 7 days and grade is less than 50%).

I wish I could edit these posts! I found the reports by clicking on a mentee and then selecting the "All students" from the dropdown, so that question is answered.

    1) This is a frontpage block - can't be installed at the course level. 2) Check mentor roles (https://www.screencast.com/t/vuhgwjW2F) to ensure that the two users aren't there. If you have the (Moodle default) Mentees block installed, I suggest you remove it.

Hello. I have installed the plug in NED Mentor in my Moodle. But I have a problem with the notification to de manager about the configuration rules that I have made. I configured the rule to send notifications to mentor and mentees when the mentee "No login / No activity for 10 days". The mentee has been absent from the course during several days, but no message has been sent. I clicked the "Run now" button with the same results: "No messages were sent." Could you help me, please? Thank you.

It seems the plugin does not track all activities such as URL Resource which has a completion status, is this limited to Activities?

Hello Vin, I'm afraid this block does not track URL resources.

    Hi Fernando:

First of all, a big "THANK YOU!" for contributing such an amazing set of plugins to the Moodle community...

Future Idea to make the Mentor Manager plugin really fly: how about have a way for parents to create their own account via the "Create New Account" feature in Moodle, but then have a "Mentor Student" plugin that connects them to their students automatically? The way this would work is they would put in their username, then have their student put in their username and password...presto!

This would be "magic" in terms of having to avoid the administrative hassles of creating parent / mentor accounts, and then having to wrestle with the administration of linking mentor accounts to student accounts....

Of course, what you have setup is already wonderful for administration at the system level, but in order to bulk process students and mentors at an institutional scale, this could be an elegant solution....

Thanks for your consideration and keep up the GREAT work!

Hi Joseph, thanks for the suggestion. I will add it to the wishlist http://ned.ca/plugins/#_wishlist. As always, we are open to funding from schools and organizations that are looking to implement functions like these.

    Hi Fernando,
Is there a way to do bulk uploads via CSV, or is this a feature you've ever considered adding ?

    Thanks

    Hello,
Thanks for this great plugin. I have seen that it's not available for Moddle 3.3 on version, but in statistics there is a lot 3.3 version using it. Someone know if it's possible to use it for 3.3 version ? Thanks, best regards.

This block is SO helpful in our virtual high school. However, I cannot figure out what part of assignment completion it is monitoring. It does not monitor activity completion, because it does not account for manual completion markings. However, it doesn't not include all items waiting to be graded either. For instance, a student has 5 waiting to be graded and the block says 3. Does it only monitor certain types of activities?
