I have the same problem and I think I know how it is produced. My courses began doing this when i was using the Minted IMS package to install courses. Unfortunately there was a problem and I had to delete a bunch of catagories that wrote wrong due to a varchar(3) sql mistake, should have been (40). I deleted the categories which continually pushed courses into the parent category until I all courses were in Miscellaneous. Moving courses in and out of categories seems to create this problem in 1.9 linux. I have not checked but I think I have 1200 affected courses

I received the below email from my Director of Technology at our college. We have installed an SSL cert on our site but have not set all pages of the site to use https only the login page. My IT director is fussing about this claiming the site is not secure. The reseon for this is the login block on the front page is in a http: based address not Https: address. I am not very up to date on ssl technology, any help or advice would be welcome. below is the email: From My IT Director.

SSL connections:
Main page Login (no SSL indicator… I am concerned about this… should I be… should we create a culture where 7-7-1 info is ONLY put in on encrypted pages… suggestions??):

Attached is a zip file created by other moodlers that will allow admins to delete courses in bulk. I will include a readme file on how to install this add-on. I will also be working with our firms programmers to improve upon this tool. Our institution has over 12000 users and we run around 1300 courses per semester. Deleting one by one is suicide.
Never mind I figured it out. Im going to post the instructions and the files updated to work with 1.9 so it might pull in a search. Thanks, for the help I am still going to see if this can be improved.
Thanks for the info, I had found the zip file jeff posted. I was not sure where to upload the deletecourses.php file. It first seemed like it ran from root, but would not call from web. I tried the courses folder in moodle but it seemed not to work there either. ill keep searching the forums but any info on how to install or use jeff's files would be most helpful. Thanks for the reply, P.S I did submit jeffs files to our programmers to see if they could work these into an installable module with more options.
