"will the student be asked for the new key, next time he or she visits the course do you think? Or will they continue as normal?"

The student will be able to continue as normal, they don't need to know what the new key is. So, think of the 'enrolment key' as a password to keep unwanted users out of a course. If an unwanted user somehow discovers the 'key' and gets into the course, you as the teacher can unenrol them, and then change the key, and they'll not be able to get back in.

Hello Leon,

You wrote:

"Am I correct in using the course key? Is this the best way? Any advice would be appreciated."

If by 'course key' you mean the 'Enrolment key', then yes the enrolment key is the best way to prevent students that are registered to your moodle site entering a course they should not be in.

The enrolment key is a 'one time password', which means once a student has been registered to a course, they do not need to type in the enrolment key again for that course (unless they somehow get unenrolled). This means that if you are concerned about 'unwelcome' users getting hold of the enrolment key, you can change this key as many times as you want. In fact, it's a good idea to change this key once all the legitimate students have enrolled in the course.

Hope this answers your question.

Having searched the Quiz forum, I see that the problem of Quizz atempts not being restored is an ongoing problem. See this posting for example:

http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=30923

The 'error' message that I get during a restore, is as others have reported:

Restoring quiz without user attempts. Restoring of user attempts will be implemented in Moodle 1.5.1

Not being a programmer, what can I do to solve, or at least get around this problem?

I read in previous postings (see above) that it may be possible to 'edit out' the offending message. Is this actually a solution, or does this 'editing out' just hide the message, without actually solving the problem?

Put simply, not being able to restore results is a potentially huge problem should anything happen to my server.

Any advice and help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm using moodle 1.5.2 +

Any advice for this Workshop error?

Last term I implemented a number of Workshop modules, all on moodle version 1.4.3. I have since upgraded to 1.5.2, and have just noticed that when I click on one of these old workshops I get the following message:

Workshop grade assessments: cannot find best assessment

This error message only appears with the workshop that was done by 270 students, the other 5 workshops were only done by 40 students each. I have changed the setting of this problem workshop, but to no avail.

This seems to be a serious problem, because when I ran my cron script via my browser, I got the following result:

Server Time: Wed, 19 Oct 2005 19:47:58 -0600

Starting activity modules
Processing module function assignment_cron ...done.
Processing module function forum_cron ...done.
Processing module function journal_cron ...done.
Processing module function workshop_cron ...

Workshop grade assessments: cannot find best assessment

So, are there any ideas about why only a certain workshop would get this error message, and why this problem would in turn prevent the cron script form running? Put another way, what is the 'best assessment'?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
