Hi, Janne,
Thank for that response. I am still not using 1.7, so it was just for future reference.
Thank for all the time and effort you have oput into this and to the CMS mod. I love them both!
Best regards,

Hi, Terence,
I hate to say this, but I would NOT try to upload only the files that have changed. The forums are filled with the unhappy experiences of those who have tried to go that route.

You know, I keep thinking about a parent role and I just don't want one on my site. There just seem to me to be to many ways for this to go awry and for parents to see more than we are allowed to show them. At least where I live.
But...
Years ago, I played with this - http://www.thinkwave.com/. The way it worked was that it created a password protected web page on the server for each student in the gradebook. Grades and contact info were on that page. There was no interaction beyond entering the password and there was nothing else to do but to view the grades and move on. I assume it still works the same way.
Maybe one day in distant future, our gradebook will do that. If it included a field for "other important information" like upcoming tests, it would satisfy most parents, I think. And this could be "outside" Moodle, the way the Outpublish feature of Netpublish module does it.

Well, just food for thought.
Have a great day, Moodlers.

Hi, Julian,
Yes. As of version 1.7, you can design a "role" to make this possible - http://docs.moodle.org/en/Roles
I have the impression that this is about 99% ready for prime time.
Hope that helps a bit.

A Semester with Moodle
Posted by Kevin A. Wilson on 16 Dec 2006 6:09 pm.
I am finishing my first semester using an on-line component to my classes, so I wanted to reflect a bit on how it has gone. Our school does not have WebCT or Blackboard (although we can get access through other schools), so I installed Moodle on my own server. Moodle is an Open Source — and therefore free — course management system that is comparable to Blackboard...
