Well, let me put the question differently: Can I start the vpl-jail-system HTTP only (no 'S')?
I don't want to not to set SECURE_PORT, because it says the default is 443, which is used by Apache. When I set PORT=8080 and SECURE_PORT=8443 the daemons start and 'lynx http://localhost:8080/OK' is happy. But the VPL plug-in complains about the certs not matching the domain. Which is true, the certs were made for the Internet with the FQDN, not localhost, but that shouldn't matter if I give http://localhost:8080 as the execution server. Apparently port 8080 serves HTTPS. How do I make it serve HTTP?

Hi
I understand your needs but not the means. If I'm an authority and the site policy says, "Post your question in one forum only", I wouldn't start by breaking it. But then, I am not an authority.

Not to mention that this practice could be contra-productive. Multi-posting could annoy some potential volunteers! Again "could", just a feeling.
On the "higher" aspects above a mere rule: I'm not good at explaining them. I feel like repeating the obvious. Here's a previous try which pretty much applies here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=446185#p1794827. I hope, you'll understand that I'm not willing to elaborate on these things.
