Hello Gordon,

I've needed to create a Placement Test. I created it in HP with JQuiz, because I'm more used to that, and I've imported into a Moodle quiz because that's better adapted to testing.

I found it surprisingly easy except that some questions have no right answer in the Moodle quiz. It's possible, but very laborious, to change them manually.

I've uploaded the HP quiz to your http://bateson.kanazawa-gu.ac.jp/moodle/18/ms/ site and turned it into a Moodle quiz: Placement Test. The same questions that didn't work on my site, don't work on yours, that is numbers: 6, 11 , 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 30, 34, 35, 37.
They work fine in the original HP quiz.

Sorry to lumber you with such a large number of questions, but in my mini 2 question quiz the problem doesn't arise.

What am I doing to create this problem?

I'm on Moodle 1.8.2 but there was a problem on our old 1.6.5 platform too. HP version 6.2.2.2

All the best,
Glenys

Hello Robin,

I'm not sure if what I'm going to suggest will help, but here goes!

In your course, first create the number of groups you went and give each group a different enrolment key.
Then, before they enrol on the course, assign your students to groups and give each group a different enrolment key. When they enrol each student will automatically find themselves in their group. It's explained on this Forum here:

It assumes that each student enrols themself.

Cheers,

Hi there,

If what you want to do is something like this: http://moodle.univ-fcomte.fr/mod/hotpot/view.php?id=14661
Enrolment key: closegh
The code for the player is in the "instructions field".
I'm using a modified version of the WebRhubarb source code on Moodle 1.6.4

First learn How to play MP3 files using Flash
As well as Martin's tiny player, there are several other Flash players in the files section of hotpotatoesusers list.

Upload your exercise to your Moodle site in the usual way and in the settings for the exercise choose Force media plugins: No This means that Moodle will use your original mp3 player. There is (or was) a problem with the Moodle player not releasing the focus and so the using being unable to type in the text field.

I haven't yet succeeded in using a video Flash player in Moodle because of the problem of the player not releasing the focus but I haven't tried just recently either. This is only a problem where students need to type in a text field as with WebRhubarb (or JCloze or JQuiz short answer). If they only need to click on something, there is no problem.

By the way, my exercise as it stands is too long. Students complain about having to start all over from scratch if they have a power cut or other glitch in the middle. I'll chop it up into 3/4 sections for next year's course.

Hope this helps,
Glenys
