This is great news! Is there somewhere on your site where we can try things out? I haven't set up Moodle 2 yet even locally as I don't foresee really using it before September 2011 at the earliest. In fact, I'll wait for TaskChain - I can't break my addiction to QuizPort now.
But I would be willing to upload some of my HotPots somewhere and try them out.

There is a tracker issue about this: CONTRIB-2174 : Installation of Riffly and Nonongong (sic) repositories won't work - reported by Norbert Berger in July 2010
If you go and vote for it you'll increase the chances of it getting fixed rapidly.

I did a Google search for "Moodle 1.9 TinyMCE" and found Simple TinyMCE Integration into Moodle.
I haven't tested it. There were lots of other pages too - but this was one of the most recent.

Yes, the teacher can record audio messages with NanoGong.
Can't help with your questions about Gong - I thought it was only NanoGong that was integrated with Moodle 1.9.

If you set up groups in the course settings, they do apply to the whole course. If you set up groups just for a particular resource or activity, they only affect that.
Personally, I find emails hard to keep track of - I don't remember what I've written to whom, so I prefer to create a forum for a particular group and send them messages that way.
