Moodle in English -> General help -> Subscribe This Thread Only

by Tom B -

In these forums there should be a "subscribe to this thread only" option. I want to know when a particular thread has new content, but I don't always want to receive notifications about EVERY thread in a forum.

I see this has come up in the past https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=217293. I disagree with those who say that having no subscribe-to-thread and only having subscribe-to-whole-forum "is a feature, not a bug". We, the users, should be able to CHOOSE to subscribe to only a thread or to the whole forum.

And, now as I post this, I am "forced" to subscribe to the whole forum. Ugh, now I must prepare myself for the flood of forum posts in my email.

I'm teaching with Moodle. I'm the website administrator. I want to give a school administrator the ability to see the website, but not edit anything. The "non-editing teacher" still would allow the administrator some abilities I don't want her to have. I could make her a student, but that may have some drawbacks - such as her receiving email notices whenever I post to the News Forum. I see that I can change the permissions that a "non-editing teacher" has. I'm hesitant to start changing the permissions, but that may be the best option. Can I create a new role, such as Admin Who Can Only Look?

What do you recommend?

I still think there should be a "subscribe to this thread" option in the Moodle forums. I want to know when a particular thread has new content, but I don't always want to receive notifications about EVERY thread in a forum.

Moodle in English -> General plugins -> MemoryCards, Active or Abandoned

by Tom B -

The below Spaced Memory System addon is exactly what I'm looking for. This is an active and still usable addon which can be added to my Moodle 2.6 installation? If not, is there another addon you can recommend. I'm looking for (especially) a way to hold students accountable for all the vocabulary we've learned (e.g. the past 4 units).

I have a Moodle site for an English class I'm teaching. I often post messages to the News Forum and those are automatically sent to the email addresses of all the students. Today I wanted to contact only two students so I used Messaging. Are those "messages" automatically sent to the students' email addresses? I sent the message to myself also and I haven't recieved the message.

The page     Home / Site administration / Plugins / Message outputs / Email is not configured. There is no SMTP host or username configured, etc.
