Forum Sticking

We've got an odd problem with our set up in that an empty News Forum that appears under the Topic outline label and above a topic will not delete.

If you delete it it looks gone but shows up when logged in as a student user, and alsoreturns when the admin editing page is refreshed.

One can hide the Forum but this then leaves and empty box between the Topic ouline label and the topc box itself.

Are we missing something obvious?

Are we missing something obvious?  Yes! You can rename or hide this forum but you cannot delete it. It's primary purpose is to allow the course administrator to have a way to communicate with all participants. Typically this forum is set up with everyone forced subscribed, so that course admin can make important announcements.

Bryan...

Many thanks. Helpful. We were trying to set up a display course that didn't require feedback. We'll find another way round this.

You are deleting it, but it gets automatically recreated so that the "latest news" block has something to show.

So do this: before deleting the forum, remove the "Latest News" block (in pre-block versions of Moodle just go into Course Settings and set the number of news items to zero).
