Hi.

Anyone who knows how the work with the SCORM 2004 compliance is going. Is there any release of a new Moodle version that supports SCORM 2004 in the near feature?

I've read the tracker at http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-7068 but there are no time set for the release.

I assume you noticed this - but just incase you missed it the page you link to has a January 07 approx release date for 1.8 with SCORM 2004 support.

However, if anyone can feedback on how SCORM 2004 is going and if it's guaranteed in the 1.8 release that would be great.

Thanks.

2 things about this in the Tracker make me a little pessimistic on a timely resolution:
  1. This has been open since mid-October and none of the sub-tasks have been resolved yet. In fact, 2 of them are listed as not even having been started yet.
  2. The "Fix Version/s" at the top says 1.9. Maybe it said that all along, but that doesn't sound to me like a hopeful 1.8 inclusion.

No, sadly, the programmers involved are not going to get this done in time for 1.8 sad

(Please note though that most SCORM 2004 packages will work in 1.6 and later ... we just don't have full compliance yet ...)

I did see Bobo made quite a bit of progress on HEAD. Thought it was a bit more "ready" myself...? Do you know what the general status is? (None/some/all sequencing works?)

Jonathan Newman and I will be playing with mod/scorm a bit in the coming month or so (we are getting a big bundle of commercial SCORM packages to test against moodle).

Should be a good chance for bugfixing, not in time for 1.8 but perhapps during the 1.8.x series...?

Yes it is. At least it works with version 2004. I use a program called Captivate to create the file. It is pretty simple once you've done it once or twice. Moodle 1.8.8 did not work with the SCORM files.

SCORM 2004 is not completely supported as mentioned in the post above.
http://docs.moodle.org/en/SCORM_FAQ#What_version_of_SCORM_is_supported.3F

Moodle is not SCORM 2004 Compliant - of the 100+ tests for compliance - I think it passes 2

Moodle is SCORM 1.2 Compliant and passes all the tests in the ADL Test Suite, however it isn't SCORM 1.2 Certified at this stage (however we hope to obtain 1.2 certification relatively soon)

Any update on this? When I use SCORM 1.2 I get lots of weird user errors. But 2004 doesn't report a passing grade to the gradebook. It does say its complete but I need it to say the score in the gradebook

no update on 2004 sorry (although a couple of 2004 bugs have been fixed in Moodle 2.0)

make sure you've seen these posts:
http://danmarsden.com/blog/category/scorm/

although 1.2 is quite stable at the moment - make sure you're using 1.9.5 or higher (prefereably the latest 1.9Stable) as a large number of 1.2 bugs have been fixed in the 1.9 branch.

also check out the SCORM FAQ:

http://docs.moodle.org/en/SCORM_FAQ

If you're still having issues with 1.2 and the latest 1.9stable code - please create a new forum post explaning your issues - and make sure you use the guidence here:

Hello,

How much Moodle 1.7 is SCORM 2004 conformant?

It seems to support "cmi" data model elements, but it gives a error when a SCO tries to SetValue of the "adl.nav.request" data model element (continue).

We have installed Moodle 1.8, but it seems doesn't understand SCORM 1.3 packages, while consuming SCORM 1.2 packages.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Armen.

Moodle is open source - it relies on community support/submissions for continued development - so far no one with a bucket of $$ has felt SCORM 2004 is important enough to throw a chunk of money into getting it improved/done. There is agreement that it is probably a good thing to do, but unfortunately you'll just need to wait.
