I would like to move a forum from one course to another. Can I just go into the database and change the course field? I am nervous about trying this because I don't want to screw up my site!

What version of Moodle are you using?  I'm no expert but here are my thoughts:
I would use the backup and restore function and only choose that forum (if you are using version 1.6 or the Forum activity in previous versions then remove extras moved over).  I would ensure the user data was included as you might run into problems with users not being in the 'new' course??
Hope this helps

I'm using 1.5....but I would imagine the technique you're describing will work there too. Thanks!

Hi Kevin

Yes the backup and restore to add to a course (only Forums) will work just as well in 1.5.  I like this in version 1.6 better though as you can choose which specific forum (or other activity) you restore to the course so if you have six forums and you only wanted one (or two) of them you can choose it/them.

Good luck!
