Any suggestion of plugins or tools to explain concept easily

Hi,

I used to use forum activity to ask students to post their questions, and I reply with text and images in the forum posts. However, I found that it is sometimes difficult to explain some concepts in this way.

For example, explaining sorting algorithms for computer science exercises. Is there any Moodle plugins or tools that I can use to illustrate the concept and explain verbally at the same time? So, they can find my explanation in attachment in the forum post and watch at their own time.

I come across with a tool named AskWithFun which can record video. Although the video ( ) mentions Teams, I am thinking that this can be used in Moodle too. I want to find more similar tools and any build-in Moodle activity/plugins to do so as well. Hope

Thanks!

"Illustrating sorting algorithms" is an art. Search the web for the phrase! If you are in science (as in computer science), then you know the grand master. [Hint TAOCP]

Or if you (your students) prefer action, here's an old post: Sorting algorithms.

Moodle is a classroom. You the teacher take command of the "black board" (the screen in this case). Sure, you can animate within Moodle by running JavaScript. I would start by embedding (iframe) other web resources. For a start, embedding a video would do, just as you did in your post.

Of course, if the students do have to _understand_, then they have to program on their own. It is easy to give them the illusion that they "understood" by showing things. Just ask them after the show.

Totally agree that students try and program on their own is the best to understand the logic behind the algorithm. Thanks for the suggested resources, very interesting and useful!

For interactive videos you can use H5P "Interactive Video" which is built into more recent versions of Moodle.
If you are more interested in programming task, there is a plugin for Snap! which allows you to let students do assignments you have prepared for them: https://moodle.org/plugins/assignsubmission_snap.
Maybe those tools could be of some help.

Yes, I heard about H5P too. Snap plugin is something new to me. I will definitely take a closer look and try H5P, Snap and AskWithFun tool, etc. Thanks for your suggestions!

😅For your inspiration, a very low tech alternative that I like:

You even could consider to ask the students to create an animation of a concept as homework this way...

Moodle has in the WYSIWYG a built-in video registration option. (the difficult part is to position the built-in laptop camera)

Hi

Something is not good with the video. I can toggle the start/stop button. But nothing plays, can't drag the video forward. The window remains black.
