I have searched the forum and our moodle site and cannot find how to delete embedded files. I have read here that there is no need as they will be removed when it is found they are not used - this is not happening on our page, we have embedded files that have not been used since 2017 and wish to remove them. There are multiple of these files and I would like to remove them to free up space and ensure that all uploaded is current.

There is no way that I have found that you can clear unused embedded files out across the whole site. You need to go in to each editor where the files were added.
Click the Manage files button to open the modal and this will show you the files that are not in use.
I am also working on an update to an old community plugin, List Course Files, to display which embedded course files are not being used. https://github.com/noisyjerm/moodle-local_listcoursefiles/tree/feature_unused_files
