Hi I am trying to upgrade my Moodle Install on a Windows Server 2019 , however I cannot get past moving the Moodle directory to "Oldsite" folder as it says server folder is in use. I have put my site in maintenance mode.

Have I missed something ?

Thanks Elaine

Are you using IIS or Apache? Try stopping the service to see if that helps. In IIS you can just stop the Moodle site if there are other sites running.

Or maybe there's a command prompt window open that's in the folder you're trying to rename.

Have you seen the warning about not upgrading to Moodle 3.10.2 or 3.9.5?

Can you share a screenshot of the server desktop with the error message? It might help us figure out the issue. Hide or remove any information in the screenshot that you don't want to share on the Internet.

The message you've reported almost certainly is because a program is running which has a file or folder open within the items you're trying to move.

Depending on whether anything else is running on the server then restarting the server may close whatever is causing this message.

Were you the original installer?

Are you using one of the 'complete packages'?

https://docs.moodle.org/310/en/Complete_install_packages_for_Windows

Please note first paragraph and what it says:

"The complete install package can be used on a server, but it is not recommended that it be used as a production site."
