Question about Moodle's Resource Management capabilities

Question about Moodle's Resource Management capabilities

Hi everyone,

we're considering to use Moodle in our organization to manage some administrational tasks and organize our courses.

Judging from the Demo I've seen, the course management seems quite promising, we still have to take a deeper look at it. However, so far I'm still missing a few components.

I've found no financial information, meaning a course may have costs involved: Which attendee has paid? Does someone get a refund? Is somebody qualified for a discount?

In case of a course withdrawal, we might have to print out a refund sheet. Also, there's a legal contract we need to print for docents with their course info. It doesn't matter so much how exactly they look, but we would like to create them automatically and not by hand.

Can Moodle actually do this or is there a plugin for it? Otherwise, how would you manage this data? Do you know another software that can complement Moodle in those regards, maybe?

Thanks a lot!

Moodle is a solution for delivering courses, not selling them. There are some basic features for charging for enrolment into a course but they are just that - basic. What most people do is link up Moodle with a proper eCommerce package. Woocommerce and Edwiser Bridge is a popular choice.

With your document we would need to know the details of what you want to do.

Hi Howard,

thank you. Our objective is not to directly "sell" courses online (WooCommerce, etc.), but we need to track certain administrational and business aspects of them.

So, a trainer might host a course with us, but there may be certain costs involved, even when the course itself is free (e.g. rent for a room or materials), we need to track these somehow.

It would also be helpful for us if there was a possibility to automatically export some kind of document sheet for every attendee in a course list containing their name, the course details (dates, price, etc.) and other information. If people decide to sign up in person, we have to hand it to them, especially older folks like that.

Is there a function we could use for that or do you maybe know of some other software that can use the Moodle data and create such printable documents from it?

This stuff isn't really Moodle's "thing". Moodle delivers courses and course materials. It doesn't really handle all that organisational stuff.

You might want to look at www.iomad.org (an extended version of Moodle) that does some of this.

I think you would be looking at some custom plugin development if you wanted to do all of this in Moodle.
