How does one "unravel" the quiz navigation bar?

The quiz navigation bar is currently a rectangular block on the right hand side as shown below.



How would I "unravel" the quiz navigation such that it would look like the following:

I would like the quiz navigation to be like a straight line at top above the question.  The words "quiz navigation" are preferably not present.  Furthermore, can the "end test" button be separate in the header? I feel this would be a cleaner design.

Sorry no help but a big thumbs up for a good design idea!! This would take core coding as you are taking block content and making it part of a module...this is a great idea though, except I do not understand the next and previous question links being part of the answer area...that is not very intuitive - Tim, is there any redesign of the quiz in 4.0???
