Hi guys. We've had our moodle site for years now. Since 2010 actually, which is when we built the majority of our courses. We added a new course category for resources specifically for parents/teachers a couple of weeks ago. We uploaded some resources and added an enrolment key. All of our teachers tried to log in to the course using the enrolment key and it kept jumping back to the log in page. Tried it myself and the same thing happens. Never had this problem before, this is new. I've read the other posts on this subject and nothing has helped yet. Just wondering if anyone had any more suggestions as to how we can fix this issue. Been wrestling with it for a couple of weeks now.
What version of Moodle? Screenshot of enrollment settings?
I believe it's version 1.9.5. I've attached a picture of my enrolment settings and a pdf of my course settings. Thank you so much for answering so quickly.
Ok, so I don't see anywhere that group enrollment is enabled - is that even a feature in 1.9 and I am not sure what internal enrollment is - is that manual enrollment renamed or a plugin? If it is a plugin, does it even allow group enrollment? You really need to consider upgrading - that version is about 10 years old and very few of us even remember how to use it!! You have a password set there - can they enroll with that?
the password is the enrolment key that is not working. I think internal enrolment is any enrolment without payment. What all is involved with upgrading? Is it something we can do ourselves or do we need a moodle specialist. If we can do it ourselves, will it wipe out everything we've done? Will we have to start over?
I just reread your first post - are the teachers logged in when they are trying to enroll? As for upgrading, it will be a long process, not for the faint of heart - there are about five separate upgrades that you need to go through.
Yes, they are logged in. Don't want to upgrade if I don't have to.
Is there anyone that can look into this further for me?
So just to clarify...
- Your teachers are already logged in to Moodle
- They use the enrolment key to access the course
- Moodle rejects the enrolment key and redirects to the login page.
Is that right?
Just trying to rule out the obvious...
Are you absolutely sure that the enrolment key is correct? No spaces at the end if people are copying and pasting. Can you reset the enrolment key to something simple to check.
And can you try the same course without the enrolment key (temporarily) so that we can determine if it’s access to the course or the enrolment key that’s causing issues.

A couple more questions:
On the signup page in your Moodle site, you have a number of required fields. Do you have all that information populated for the teachers? If not, Moodle will be requiring it before letting them do anything else.
How are they accessing the course? Directly by clicking on the course name in Moodle or using a link in an email that you have sent them? If the latter, what’s the exact link you’ve sent?

I've made sure that they have populated all the fields. They click the course directly in moodle. It's on the first page labeled "PARENT-TEACHER TRAINING." Again, thanks for taking the time. I really appreciate it.
What you said is correct. I will try the same course without the enrolment key just to be sure. As far as the enrolment key itself, it's pretty simple. Wouldn't think there would be any problem there but, I'll try to change it as well to see. Thanks so much for your reply. Getting a little desperate here.
