where the training takes 'dives' (not deep) into the other 'hats' an MA might have to put on to do 'stuff' not found in Moodle Admin UX ... like MySQL/MariaDB, or Apache/Nginx/IIS 'tweaks, or PHP tweaks ... etc.

Yes, tons of blogs and how 2's from various hosting providers, etc. but none with 'dives' for Moodle - which, isn't X other popular open sourced software package.   Or have I just not Googled the  right combo of terms?

Reason asked ... once again volunteered to look at a troubled system after a 'forced migration' (long story).  And in conversing with the MA via email and this time via voice (cell phone), felt if the MA had just a little encouragement and a little 'hand holding', could take care of business ... save some bucks and become a little more independent.

Ken, is it that you are asking for a full ground zero and up training? (starting from a bare metal, setting up SMTP, Web Server, DB's, Tuning and administering moodle) or just moodle administration?

You'll find matching (dont know if they match your criteria) courses on Moodle Administration, you can look into their contents and see if they really are up to the requirements.

You can find courses HERE and HERE

Thanks, Usman.

Checked them out .. at least the video previews ... both look to be right on target and well done (more than likely) ... but for Windows. sad

All of the folks I've helped are remotely hosted (multiple providers) and on Linux of providers 'flavor'.  Typical set ups are shared hosting (ugh!), cPanel, and PHPMyAdmin ... and some do offer remote ssh.  Or VPS's with GUI + a limited browser based Terminal.

The cli scripts in moodlecode/admin/cli/ can 'fix' a lot of problems.  And with some very simple bash shell scripts,  some things ... like course backups, site backups, updating and upgrading moodle via git etc. can be accomplished.   Not 'rocket science', BTW.

Sure wish there was some data when users register their Moodle about hosting ... ie, which provider seems to be the most popular ... like SiteGround, Hostgator, GoDaddy, DigitalOcean, RackSpace, etc.

After re-reading what I've written, maybe that's the reason one cannot find such training. :|
