Can't create competency scale?

Moodle 3.4.1

I read this topic:

But really I can't make sense of this at all. I have made a competency scale looking like this:




Whatever combination I try, it will never save... I will always get this:

The scale needs to be configured by selecting default and proficient items.

Didn't I just do that? What am I overseeing here?

This is far from a logical interface. A popup with the buttons 'close' and 'cancel' are weird too. How do I save my choices?

Hello there. I'm sorry I haven't been able to replicate your problem because when I clicked the Configure box and clicked buttons, clicked 'close' the competency framework did save successfully. What happens when you try to replicate it on one of our demo sites for example demo.moodle.net?

Wow, that is interesting indeed. On demo.moodle.net this works, on my own site it does not work.

I literally did the exact same thing on both sites. Now the version of demo.moodle.net is Moodle 3.4.2+ (Build: 20180425) and on my own site it is Moodle 3.4.1+ (Build: 20180216)

Has there been any difference in this part?


I have tried to disable my theme as well, reverting to 'clean', but still the same error.

Tried with 'debugging on' but no errors...

Let's see what happens if I upgrade to Moodle 3.5

I'm getting the same thing - new Moodle install, had a heck of a time trying to get the competency framework to accept my default and proficient values at first. Finally got the system to accept a random combination of default/proficient, but just gone in to edit it to the correct settings (i.e. default not competent) I'm getting the dreaded "The scale needs to be configured by selecting default and proficient items."


Just can't figure it out, does anyone have a scale that works that I can import and see if I can edit to try and figure out where the problem is?

Went back to Clean theme from Adaptable - no luck.

Tried creating a competency framework on demo.moodle - worked fine. 

Running PHP 7.1 on the server, nothing untoward in the logs there. 

Have to admit, this one has me scratching my head.

After a test upgrade I still couldn't create the scales like in the screenshot.


Finally I gave up and typed the data directly in the database like I wanted it to be.


Now it works fine and I can even edit the scales from within moodle.


This is a really weird bug.
