Moodle 3.3.

Tried to follow these instructions as carefully as I could:

https://docs.moodle.org/33/en/Guest_access

Here is how the course is presented on the landing page - I guess the key means guest access.

How the course is presented on the landing page

Require guest access password is turned off:

Finally, for auto-login guest. I did not click "Default No" which, I assume, means it defaults to Yes. BTW: I find this "Default: No" stuff confusing.

Here is the URL for the site, if you want to give it a try:

No - the key means you have set an enrolment key for the course, so you need to remove it. And I think you need to tick the "Auto-login guests" - I agree it is confusing, but I think it needs to be ticked/checked.

I think the documentation for this is out of date. I also think the documentation for guest accounts is out of date. I am looking at the 3.3 documentation, but the menu options I am instructed to use seem to be out of date.

For example: "In the course administration block, click Users > Enrolment methods"

I am guessing that is left over from previous versions of Moodle.

https://docs.moodle.org/33/en/Enrolment_key

I am not sure how to remove this enrolment key. BTW: I do not think I ever set Moodle to use an enrolment key.

Also in the guest access documentation, I am directed to: "Administration > Course administration > Users > Enrolment methods"

Maybe I am missing something, but I don't think that path exists.

I will try it, but it makes no sense. That would seem to be setting Moodle to default to "No - guests should not be logged in automatically . . ."

Thanks again for your help.

I changed the documentation to explain where Guest access is now. Please see https://docs.moodle.org/33/en/Guest_access#Course_settings_for_guest_access

Your second screenshot showed the sitewide settings for guest access and there you have a tick/checkmark in Require guest access password. Take the tick out.

If you want guests to be able to go to a course automatically without needing to click anything extra, then you need to tick the Autologin guests box.

I am confused again.  By "Require guest access password" I have checked "Default: No". That would seem to mean: by default, do not require guest access password. How could it be interpreted any other way?

The default is what you see when you have a brand new site and you don't change anything.

So... default for guest access is  No - has NO tick and you tick to make it YES

Thanks again. I think I have it working.

And thank you for explaining the way "Default" works. Although I still think it's a confusing system.
