Moodle Internet Access

Moodle working fine  via LAN & WAN . but the only probelm is even when trying to access moodle from  LAN it is being  routed via WAN  . I  am accessing moodle by typeing "http://public ip/moodle"
$CFG->wwwroot   = 'http://public IP/moodle'; is the entry in  moodle config file . If i change this to  $CFG->wwwroot   = 'http://private IP/moodle' via WAN. The moodle access to WAN stops.  I am in Win2008 infrastructure.
I want internal users on LAN to access moodle via "http://privtae ip/moodle" and WAN users to access this moodle via "http://public ip/moodle" .
Do I need to use any other thing to  achieve this?

why are you using IP addresses as opposed to a domain name? Not great for users.

set it up on an external FQDN and have your internal DNS nameservers resolve the local IP while public DNS resolving the public IP

this is called "split-brain DNS" google that and you'll find plenty of info about it
