A couple of q's re reply by email and activity logs

Hi all,

A couple of questions...I suspect the answer is no to one or both, but just want to check...

1. If you reply to a forum post using the "Reply by email" feature, do the course activity logs register that activity as a forum post?

2. Alternatively, does reading an email hat you receive from a forum count in the course logs as having viewed a post? I suspect not.

Thanks in advance.

For #1, your best bet is to test this. My site isn't configured to allow replies from forum emails (ours send from a Do Not Reply), but if yours is:

1. Add a test user to your site (with an email address you have access to)

2. Enroll them into a class and subscribe them to a forum.

3. Then log into the email account and reply to the forum post.

4. Go back to the course as the teacher and see what the logs say.

For #2, no - Moodle would have no way of tracking if a user is looking at an email in an external system. Moodle will track if the student clicks on a link in the email, (provided they are logged into Moodle), because that click will bring the student back into a specific page of Moodle.
