I know this is on the agenda for Edubuntu eventually, and I have come across a version of Knoppix with Moodle 1.4 over at OSS watch, although their latest release has Boddington instead.
Failing that, I'd be interested in a Linux distribution including Moodle on the disk, ideally with lots of hardware support and minimum set-up psot install.
Hi Miles,
have a look on Andre Krügers Knoppix-moodle at ftp://moodlixx.de/. There is also an english version http://moodlixx.de/course/view.php?id=4.

I had a look througout Moodle.org about a couple of months ago and couldn't find an up-to-date Live CD version of Moodle. I was disappointed to find, as you did Miles, that OSS decided to replace Moodle with Bodington.
I looked at the Knoppix Moodle then and found that the English version was out-of-date and only the German one was being maintained. That is OK, I know people are busy with their own lives, and this is all voluntary!

There is a link to an ISO of Moodle Knoppix on the front page of the site, but I'm pretty sure this is a German version. Could someone confirm that please?
There is a need for one of these packages to be regularly maintained. Anyway, if I knew how to do this - that it, package up a live Moodle with one of the Live Linux distributions - I would be happy to maintain one of these myself. But when I did some initial research into how to put it together, it looked difficult. Can anyone disabuse me of this feeling? Any tutorials on the 'net for newbies as to how to do this?
Tim.
Hi Tim,
you are right. At the moment a have a new english version but it need some testing and then I will upload it. The 2 Euros for the Englisch version Moodle Knoppix ist to protect myself and my server.
You are also right, that the link on the front page is for ISO of German version. It was only free for a presentation on Linux-day in Karlsruhe , that why I have removed this link now.
At the moment I can´t maintain a english version. But if you will maintain this version I can give you same scripts and a short tutorial how you can do this. But that is only my way. Other tutorials you can find here http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Knoppix_Remastering_Howto
There is also a forum where you can find useful informations http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=2
You can write me a private message, when you will try it my way.
André
I am the author of the two discussed german courses. My english is not as good as it should be. There will be a free english version of my LiveCD, if there are more users with need for this.
The remastering of knoppix is quite simple (if you know the way) - but you need much experimence with linux.
I'd like to share my know-how with a community. It is almost better to develop in a team!
greetings from germany!

We're interested in having live CDs of Moodle (or easily installable versions) available on our stand at the BETT show, if we can get the funding together.
Whilst we would certainly be interested in your liveCD, the idea of learning how to remaster one quite appeals, as we'll want to include a good amount of our own content on the disk too. Is that something you'd be able to help us with, or can you point me in the direction of instructions to learn how to do this?
Miles.
Using your own content should be no problem. You can even achieve this by using windows with a burning software which can do multisession.
The author of lamppix ( http://lampixx.tinowagner.com ) has got a working solution for LiveCDs with own content, but installation with own content requires a remaster.
My LiveCDs should be ready within the next weeks. They will be installable containing an empty moodle with the latest version. First I have to develop the german version, which should be useable for you using another bootparameter.
Maybe you like to mail me for further details.

No idea how much of it is in German.
It's main distinctive feature is it saves the Moodle or MediaWiki developed material on a Windows partition.
More information at http://cosnet.sep.gob.mx/cosdac. Sorry guys, it's on Spanish only!
I made a Dutch version (Moodle 1.4) and also included Atutor and Ilias on the CD. If you send me an email I'll provide you with a user name and password so you can download it if you wish (unfortunately I have to do it this way) I also made a feature to save data on a usbstick.
