Hi, just to add my twist on this thread, I am able to upload my image to the moodle.org site (as you can see), but I am unable to load the same picture to my own site.
I am running moodle 1.1.1 on a Suse Linux server that I don't have any admin access to.
From what I have read at the install page, I have to allow apache to write to the moodle data folder (so I did a chmod to 0777 for that folder, since I couldn't change the group).
I do have GD (2.0.12 compatible) installed with the png option enabled.
The only other thing that is slightly weird about the general set up is that I don't have access to the apache config file, so I just made soft links from index.html to all the index.php files, but I don't think that is the problem.
After I choose the picture (which is less than 200k in size), I select the Update profile button and the page stays blank on use/edit.php
the site is: http://www.microstructure.uni-tuebingen.de/moodle/
Any ideas?
cheers
Mark

I had to edit the picture down to a manageable size. It's working properly now.
