Can chat "Beep" be disabled?

Can chat "Beep" be disabled?

I've looked all over the chat module and searched these forums, but it appears that the "beep" function in the chat module is always enabled.  Is this so?  Can the function be disabled?

If not, this seems like a pretty obvious addition to me.  Having the option for a beep is a great idea, but forcing it strikes me as a reason for instructors not to use the chat module at all in situations where students may be inclined to use it irresponsibly.

I removed the html that printed the beep link next to each users name and removed any reference to the beep function from the documentation.

This worked for me but it assumes that the users don't already know about the beep on the command line.

Until there is a preference for it, you could also delete or replace the beep.wav from mod/chat
