I understand that a booking confirmation email is sent to the student and the manager. However, my problem is that my darling students and there employer forget the training sessions. Currently I send both of them a reminder a day before the event. Needless to say that this is a lot of work and I am looking for a way to send an automatic reminder, one or two days before, to both the student and their employer. Any idea how this could be done?

When you add a new face-to-face activity, or when you click the "Update this Face to Face" button, there are options to set "Reminder message", and to set the time for it to be sent + its content. See below:
