If you want to see what changes I've made to Aardvark Pro you can download the Aardvark-Lite.ZIP file HERE More screenshots HERE
Screen-shot below...

Looks Good!!

Any suggestions?
Why not do away with the javascript completely ;) Strip off the div and add this line to the last of your menu.php after ul tag
See here http://pastebin.com/cXk9YtBt
Cheers!! ;)
(PS: I didnt know how to post php code in the moodle thread :P Grrrr.)
You are a gem! Thanks for that. I've done something similar in the past and forgot how to, this has saved me a search in my archive files!
Will do as you say.
Thanks
Mary
I've managed to change the menu completely. Changed some php in the menu, which make it seems to work a lot faster too. However, there is one problem though...the menu does not work in Safari. It seems to jump all over the place, so I'm guessing it's something to do with the hover function.
But on the plus side it works in IE8, FireFox (3.0.13), Opera (10.10), and latest version of Chrome. So 4 out of 5 ain't bad as the song goes!
Here's a new screen shot. I've also updated the ZIP file.

Just a quick question - have you updated the demo site?
I just had a look using Chrome and the menu is all over the place.
Cheers
I didn't check it again after I posted the update last night, and after I put it through it's paces via W3C Validator!
I fixed the errors which were highlighted by the validator, but they were mainly to do with Moodle content rather than XHTML or CSS, it was more to do with the way Moodle adds unsightly HTML tags which are not allowed with the DOCTYPE for the page, however, the validator did through up an error in the code for the date. And this also showed up in Firebug when I isnpected it. It was actually missing the second " in the <a href="URL/calendar/view.php" >. I think this was my fault as I was messing with the php code trying to add a class rather than the inline style. But in the end I gave up and called it a day. I got the page thru the validator, but in so doing, I have probably messed up the php. I'll go and see what a mess I really made of it last night! Serve me right for stopping up late! LOL
Cheers
Mary
I think I got the php messed up, but not sure. The problem was in the CSS mark-up for the menu.
I love these STEEP learning curves...ones can learn so much more! Reminds me of one of those old Chinese proverbs...
Tell me so that I can hear
But let me experience so that I can learn!
Mary
Demo site is looking great on Chrome. Now all we need is that TinyMCE HTML editor that will come with Moodle 2 and Chrome will take over the world!!
Cheers, theme looks great. The white border surround looks really cool. Only negative thing, purely aesthetic (and my personal opinion), I prefered Shaun's original drop down menu..
Well done,
Chris
I think the white border was there in an earlier version of Aardvark, I much prefer it too.
As for the menu...that's another area which needs some special treatment. The reason I dropped the origial idea, was becasue I wanted it to be faster loading, so I did away with all the images associated with the menu.
But talking about the Menu, it would be good to be able to add or delete links through the Admin area, like one has the facility to edit Language files. I dare say it can be done, and if I apply myself to the task, I may have a bash and see if I could make a plugin that will just that! I shall have to have a word with my php mentor Navin!
Also it would be great to get Aardvark converted into a Moodle 2.0 theme. If only I knew where to start!!!
Thanks again
I just checked, the theme looks great!!
Just a small something that Chris already pointed. Its a request cum suggestion, if I were the end-user. It would be great to have a more a eye-friendly menu in terms of colors. I dont mean the images or the previous menu. But the colors. May be you would like to add a variation of red in conjunction with the black and white bg.
Also the text in menu is too small for me. Can we have it all uppercase or something where the text is relatively easier to read.
And regarding the Menu with edit capabilities. Its already on my list of to-do(s). Would be great to have your views on how you think it should be. It is always better to thrash out what's & how's before we start hunting. Do tell me what you have on your mind!
Cheers!!

Nave
I've taken all your comments on board and made a few changes. (See screenshot below of Aardvark-Lite latest menu)
As for the menu editor, it would have to be simple to use.
Perhaps something on the lines of a small database created in Moodle which the user could complete by imputing 'Link Name' and associated 'URL' .
Then find a way to pass this data to the Menu... easy peasy really! LOL
I think I know how to do it as a stand alone process, but not sure of Moodle protocols which might conflict with the required output. Does this sound a crazy idea?

Your theme looks fresh & crisp now
I will start coding the menu editor sometime mid next week. Will get back to you when I have something to show and discuss

Hi all
I have been using the original Aardvark Theme and I have to say I prefer what you have created. Would it be possible to re-instate the login username and password boxes in the header. Or if anyone could advise how this can be achieved, I would be grateful.
Thanks for all you effort with this theme.
Manj
Thank you for your kind comments. I'll be happy to fix that for you. I'll post a link when it's done.
Mary
Here's is the modified Aardvark Lite theme which I have called Aardvark Liteheaded.
You can download the new theme HERE.
And here's a snapshot of the theme...

Hi Mary
Thank you for doing that for me - it is much appreciated. I will test it out and feedback to you.
Regards
Manj
If you have any problems with it please let me know and I'll try to fix them.
I've now added this theme to the theme listing on Moodle, I'll add a link to it when it's approved.
Demo
Mary
Hi Mary, I'm very glad to test my site with your theme.
I've tested the theme with several computers and one of mine render the drop-down menu in a very strange way.
I attached the screenshot. This shot was taken on Explorer 8 in Windwos 7.
The server's OS is W2008, and moodle is 1.9.8.
Here is the link : http://idintranet.kaist.ac.kr/
Thnks in advance!
*** And your demo site looks properly with the same machine.

Thanks for testing Aardvark-Liteheaded in IE8 Win 7. If you are seeing this OK in the demo site, but not in your own site when using the same computer I am wondering if it is your server rendering the menu as you have in the screenshot. I did have this problem originally but fixed it with a float: left in the CSS. If you have only just downloaded the ZIP file of this theme then the correct CSS is in that file. If you downloaded it when it was first launched then there is a slim chance you have the wrong CSS. I have attached the CSS which is on the DEMO site, so that you can compare it with the one you have, but I am guessing it is the same css file.
It's hard to understand how one system works fine and another not...it is so frustating too.
Thanks you for pointing this BUG out. I'll try and find a solution, if I can!
Mary
I couldn't help but notice in the demo site, it has a picture above 'Site News'.
I was wondering if you edit this in the theme, or in the Moodle folder. Please help me
Peace
P.S
If you don't know what i'm talking about, its the area where it has:

Please tell me where/what to change in the folder ASAP
This isn't part of the theme. Pretty sure it's a topic section.
In Site admin menu, Front page > front page settings > tick include a topic section.
The back on the front page, 'turn editing on' insert a label then add text, images etc etc
Cheers
Yes as Chris said in his post above.
Here's a screen shot of how I have mine set... Hope this helps!

.::THANKYOU::.
Hi Mary,
Thanks for making available your Aardvark-Lite theme.
I see that you have done away with the language choice drop-down list on the front page. Recently on the French-speaking forum someone using Aardvark-Lite asked how to get that feature back.
I am attaching a modified version of file aardvark_liteheaded_profileblock.php which restores that feature.
I really think you should make that change to your theme. After all, if people do not want to offer this feature on their moodle site, they can easily turn it off in Administration ► Language ► Language settings (Display language menu Default: Yes).
ATB
Joseph
I didn't know it was not visible as I have the menu turned off! Thanks for pointing that out Joseph. I'll attend to it ASAP and update the ZIP.
Many thanks
Mary
I liked this theme
however I want to have its colors to be blue as my site below
http://www.trans-localize.com
Can any one provide me with the colors suitable to be edited in the file
aardvark_liteheaded.css
???
I want it to have blues greys ...etc as my site above
Thanks in advance
Shaimaa
It is quite easy for you to change the colour scheme yourself. First you need to find out what the hexedecimal (hex) codes are for the colours you wish to use. You can find the hex code using this Web Color Chart.
Once you have a list of hex colour codes you can start replacing the colours in the aardvark-liteheaded.css stylesheet.
This is an example: The color code for the light gray of your website is #F3F3F3 and so the body of your website will look like this in the CSS file.
body {
background: #F3F3F3 url(images/core/overlay.png) center top repeat-x;
color:#4b4b4b;
font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size : 14px;
}
This color change will make all your LINKS a pale blue...
a:link,
a:visited {
color:#008db0;
text-decoration: none;
}
And this will make all LINKS dark blue when hovered over with the mouse...
a:hover {
color: #ff2c00;
text-decoration: none;
}
Also below you will find a pale-blue overlay.png which I made for you, so that you can save the image to your aardvark-liteheaded theme's folder to replace the one already in the folder.
Mary

Many thankful to you but the links a not blue as you see below
http://www.trans-localize.com/e-learning-academy/
+ there is a read highlight that I want it to be blue as my site
http://www.trans-localize.com
As you know I want the person who navigates between the academy (moodle) and my site to know they are some how similar i.e. have same soul.
Thanks a lot in advance
Awaiting your reply with what I can edit in the file to have my answer .
Best Regards
Shaimaa
a:link,
a:visited {
color: #8096C5;
text-decoration: none;
}
a:hover {
color: #0F0F73;
text-decoration: none;
}
No worries dear
Thanks a lot for your more than respected collaboration I do really appreciate it
here is your outcome
http://www.trans-localize.com/e-learning-academy
Just I want the color of the login picture to be as same as the overlay.png
to unify the task.
Thanks a lot for your collaboration.
Very creative I do admire.

Shaimaa
I've attached a ZIP file containing 2 login buttons (one is for hover function) together with CSS to make it work. The zip file should appear top right of this post.
Mary
Many thankful for your collaboration I really appreciate it.
I have uploaded the pictures attached but I failed to know where to use the hover picture.
Awaiting your reply and thanks in advance
Shaimaa
Here is another set of buttons this time a light shade of blue which match the overlay image.
The css code in the file I sent needs to be copied and pasted into your current CSS file. The images need to go into the images/header folder. Sorry for not being more specific.
Mary
Every thing are okay now
http://www.trans-localize.com
You can see and please if you have comments notify me.
Thanks a lot
Shaimaa
My feedback:
I've checked the site and notice that you have not added the Hover CSS code I sent you to your css file, so the Hover button does not work...which is a pity! Perhaps it is a decision your the WebDesigners have made.
Mary
Thanks a lot for your reply
They have done it just they have forgotten.
Everything works in the correct way now Thanks to you

Re: Internet Explorer / FireFox (Theme menu and login tab Problem)
There is a fix for this behaviour, in the header, but not sure if it works, so I am adding it into the css file which I will send it to you direct if you could give me your email in a Private Message.

Hello to all, I install this theme and I want to change the links. When , i write greek links they don't show correctly the characters. do you have a utf-8 package for the greeks words???How can i resolve this problem???
Thanks
Yes there is a Greek Language.
Login to your Moodle site as Admin and select from Site Administration...>Languages..>Language packs...and then choose from the list on the right (el) and ADD it to the list on the left. SAVE
Then you should be able to see it in the dropdown language list in your Home page.
Hope this solves the problem?
Mary
PS: The only disadvantage with this theme when using other languages is that you have to disable the last Menu item in the menu bar as the length of the login and profile names are much longer in Greek, and as a consequence shifts the date block out of place.
You can do this in aardvark_lite_menu.php
Mary, thanks about your reply. But when I change the language from the moodle interface , it translate only the words of the moodle. It does'nt change the menu and the date. I change from the Aardvark-Lite-menu.php but they doesn't display correctly . I upload a picture if you want to see...
Thanks..

Re: Aardvark-Lite :: language choice drop-down list
Hello ,
could anyone can help me about this issue? I try everything... even the unicode converter but the code in the file is very misunderstanding
I am sorry I forgot all about this question. I was trying my best trying to find a fix for this but haven't had time to pursue it. However, I should have left you a message, for this I apologise.
Perhaps if you leave a message on the Language forum under Using Moodle there may be someone who can help you.
Mary
Kevin
Thanks for your kind comments. As for the quirky mode in IE8 I can't replicate the effect on my computer unless I set my IE8 browser to Compatibility Mode, then and only then does the menu shift to the left. Do you get the same effect in IE8 when viewing my website DEMO page? Because it works perfectly in IE8 for me.
My conclusion to this problem is that you might well be viewing this page in Compatibility Mode rather than Normal Mode. The Compatibility Mode icon looks like a broken page, and because of its position nearest to the URL window, it is easy to click on it.
If you click this button ON and OFF you will get different views of the theme.
Hope this helps.
Mary
I've just re-read your comment above, and realised I have misunderstood what you were actually visualising in words. I was getting my left muddled with my right, and so it looks to me that you are having the same problem as Shaimaa.
I am at loss as to why you are both seeing the menu vertically down the lefthand side of the screen. I'm still awaiting Shaimaa's reply to find out if it is IE8 which is causing their site to display in the same fashion it does for you. And yet it works perfectly in IE8 for me.
As you can see in this screenshot, the menu displays and works perfectly. The version I have of IE8 is pretty recent as it is updated during Microsoft updates.
What's happening??? Is it your server? Your OS? I give up!!!
Mary

The situation is a little bit confusing. The theme works just fine in Firefox and here's the rub, works fine in IE8 with compatability mode off, but does not work with compatability mode on. Unfortunately the default across the organisation is for compatability mode to be on so therefore presents problems to users.
The problem is not the same as Shaimma, it is not the menu appearing on the left hand side of the screen. The menu appears fine, when you hover over an item, the drop down appears to the right of the menu, rather than underneath the menu
Any ideas how to overcome this? Or indeed, is it overcomable (made up word)
Thanks
Kevin
Your description of your problem is how it renders in IE8 with Compatibility Mode ON on my computer too. I think the problem stems from the way IE calculates with respect to relative positioning. I have a hack which might work. I'll try it, but can't promise it will work at this moment in time.
Mary
I think I've fixed the Menu now...I'm not sure if I have invented a hack or not, since what I have done works!
Here's my DEMO site, Please tell me if it's works OK in IE8 (Compatibility Mode) now.
Cheers
Mary
EDIT:
And Here's the IE HACK...
I remember reading about a similar problem some time ago. Here's a snip-it from the article. The hack I used is related to this same problem.
http://www.alistapart.com/articles/horizdropdowns/
Drop-Down Menus, Horizontal Style
by Nick Rigby - 29 July 2004
During the development of this article, I uncovered a strange bug that I believe is only apparent in IE6. A background must be declared on the li a, else when a sub-menu stretches further (vertically) than the main menu itself, the links start to disappear before you have time to click them. Strange! Try it to see for yourself.
Thanks for the info but I don't know how to or where to apply the hack in the CSS, could tell me please.
Thanks
Kevin

Thanks in advance

Mary
Thank you very much, but they haven't arrived yet??

This forum post has been removed
Could you upload a screen-shot of the problem as I cannot replicate this in either my own server or the one on my website HERE
Which version of IE8 are you using?
Sorry I can't be more help.
Mary
i very like this theme!
but i con't download it
maybe because i'm in china
who can email this theme for me? thank u !
Mary
I was keen to try out your theme but couldn't get it installed. I unzipped and uploaded as normal (via ftp), but the theme title appeared in red letters in the theme selector. And as of the moment the theme is uploaded, any action gives the following error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' in /home2/riabaco1/public_html/lingualucida/moodle/theme/aardvark_liteheaded/header.html on line 1
Moodle 1.9.7 was installed using SimpleScripts on Bluehost.com. I understand that installing themes in a different way to the Moodle install is reported to cause problems, but this has not been the case with any other themes uploaded in this way (ftp).
Any tips?
I had the exact same problem, so I rewrote the header which seems to have fixed the problem.
Let me know if it works.
Cheers,
Mary
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Mary
Mary
Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$parent in /home2/riabaco1/public_html/lingualucida/moodle/lib/weblib.php on line 2518
Etc.
I'll try the other option later today, uploading the zipped files and unzipping on the server.
Your dedication to your theme's users is admirable!
I'm even more keen to get it working now
The header is different, also the profileblock has been renamed to aardvark_liteheaded_profileblock.php, I also made changes to the css too to add an IE7/IE8 hack.
Dedicated? Yes...I suppose I am, but my dedication is driven by a frustration which in turned is fuelled by the fact I know so little about php, and about Moodle that I am willing to give up my time to get this theme right, and learn something in the process!
So thank you for bringing this problem into the open so I can fix the little critter!
Mary
Hope this e-mail find you and dearest members using our more than appreciated theme very well.
Now I want to change my favicon to the hereto attached but I failed to success in such changing.
What to do
Thanks in advance.
Best
Shaimaa

The image you are trying to use as a favicon is the wrong image type, you need to get it converted to .ico.
To help you understand this I have quickly made one for you which you can use until you get your original changed. I have atached it to this comment.
Just save it to the aardvark theme folder. No need to change any code.
Regards
Mary
Thanks a lot
I have done the written above. But the other one works for my site as seen below
http://www.trans-localize.com/
Thanks
Shaimaa
Apparently you have to rename it to animated_favicon.gif.
So glad you got it working Shaimaa.
Regards
Mary
Not sure which solution worked. I uploaded the zipped files and extracted them on the server, cleared browser cache, and the theme comes out correctly.
Now to think what to put in the menus and submenus ...
Thanks for your guidance.
The code you need to change is here...
body {
background: #c0deed url(images/core/overlay.png) center top repeat-x;
color:#4b4b4b;
font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size : 14px;

I am well thank you...we in the UK are enjoying a little rain, but it is good for the plants and trees in my garden so I will not complain!
Getting back to your Logo, is there any chance you could post a screenshot of the theme with the new logo, so that I can see where it is showing up, and if you could also indicate where you want it to be that too would be very helpful.

Mary
Hope everything is ok even if there is rain I do love it :D
Now see below my logo is appearing on the top of the left side of the page in same place of the actual logo but partially !!!!!
of course I want it all to be visible
Am I to send the attached documents sent to you yesterday again? three extensions of same logo in a rared file
Thanks a lot in advance

Shaimaa Riad
Here is what I managed to do. If you think it is OK then I'll upload the image.
The only problem is that the image is a different size than the original LOGO. So I have had to resize it. In fact that is all you need to do. Perhaps someone can do that in your company, they must have Photoshop for you to have sent me the .psd image type.
So resize the image then adjust the CSS file so that #logo width and height match that of you new logo. Also adjust #header to allow for the new height. the height for this image (see below) is 214px.
Mary

Can you resize the logo for me as seen in your shot and send the image to me in attachment because I failed to resize it and make it accurately seen.
I will be more than thankful.
Thanks a lot.
Best
Shaimaa
Again how to adjust sizes please send me the CSS code to modify as I am the one who is doing all this.
Thanks a lot
Shaimaa
can you please tell me what controls the image in the header bar. On my site atplmet.co.nz I am going to put a banner logo right across the top header instead of the blue wavy pic. I want to retain the general blue background for everything else, but do need to change it for the header where the ATPLMET.co.nz text is currently residing.
Thanks so much for you help - what a great theme!
Mark
1st you need to disable background image in aardvark-lite.css file. You should see it at the top. body { background: }
Then under /*Core Header*/ which is a bit further down the page...look for #logo. This is where you need to add your new header image name. Just change the height to suit your image. Make sure your logo is saved in image folder under header.
That should fix it.
Mary
Thanks a lot
your efforts are more than appreciated as seen below:

Dear Mary,
i have modified liteheaded theme with your given inputs in the forum.
By including Front Page Setting -> Include topic section, i have added few images and site description on the front page.
Now my requirement is that when a user logs in, he should not see the front page site description.
i am attaching the front page before login and after login for your reference.
Kindly help me regarding this.
Regards
Awadhesh,
The file you uploaded doesn't work in my version of publisher. But whatever you add in the topic section will show up before and after login. You can set various options in Frontpage Settings, but the site topic is visible all the time.
Mary
Hi Mary,
Thanks for your quick reply.
Have modified the theme and uploaded on the site through cpanel. The theme is working fine with mozilla, chrome but with internet explorer, after entering the login credentials, the home page comes and the user doesnt gets logged in.
Kindly help me regarding this.
My sites url is http://iprep.in/ and a for testing purpose userid/pwd is abc/Abcde1@#
Have attached the php and css files also.
Thanks
There is something wrong with IE. I discovered it will work in IE8 but with Compaibility mode OFF. If you try IE8 with compatibility mode ON it does not work.
Older versions of IE like IE6 & IE7 I have not tested it, but it could be a security issue.
I don't think this is the theme, I think it is something to do with IE...
Mary
I know this isn't the correct place to ask this question... but I figure you're the person most likely to have the answer
Using Aardvark theme (Pro I think..)
I have 6 topics in the course pictured, 5 of those display correctly when displaying '1 topic only' - in the other topic all links are in blue and underlined (see pic).
Interestingly, when I display all topics on one page they all display incorrectly......
Any ideas would be much appreciated! Problem exists in both FF and Chrome

When I removed it seemed to fix.
Cheers
I have latest version moodle, I wanna use this theme but does't work with my moodle. I have red error on my panel.
To many themes give this error. Error is " theme name (Moodle 1.4) "
How I am resolving this problem can you help to me please.
This problem we think is caused by the way you install the theme.
Try to upload the ZIP file and then install the theme using cPanel.
I think you will find it works better that way.
Mary
I used ftp programe and I had this error, if I used upload on cpanel, My theme works fine.
Thanks for your help.
I'm using a personal modification of aardvark which can been seen here (alma-multimedia.com). I would like to use the profileblock of the lite version in order to have non registered users to have the clean profile interface (simple link to the login in form +language choice) and registered users to have the full aarvark profile block (name, my courses, my profile+photo).
I tried to just upload the profileblock.php file to my theme in moodle but for some reason it doesn't work. Does someone has some idea of others file i have to change ? I tried css but nothing changed.
Thank you for your help,
simon serverin
Thanks for the praise!
I'm quite willing to help you with this, Simon, but I do need some more informations first.
Can you expand on what it is you actually want to do. Also which Aardvark theme are you using at present as this will be a factor on how to get the Aardvark-Lite profile block to work for you in your current theme.
I tried to view your web site just now, but it wasn't responding...server too slow...so it timed out!
Mary
I have just loaded your Aardvark-Lite theme. I need help for editing the header and the menu bar.
Thanks.
Isaac.
Thank you for choosing Aardvark-Lite. What exactly do you need help doing?
Mary
Thanks for your prompt response. I wanted to be able to customize the menu bar. How do I do that?
I have highlighted the areas you need to change in the aardvark_lite_menu.php in the image I have uploaded (see below).
For Example:
You need to add your links something like this...
<li class="dropdown_menu">
<a href="<?php echo $CFG->wwwroot.'/' ?>">Links</a>
<ul>
<li class="select"><span class="submenu_title">Search Engines</span></li>
<li><a href="http://www.google.com">Google</a></li>

Thanks a lot! That really helped.
I am getting to know how dedicated you are to helping everyone to make your theme work. By the way, I do love the theme; and I will spread the word around.
Thanks.
Isaac
Sorry because my English isn't very good. I need deleting the profile block (situated in the top right) of the front page, but i want that this block is in MyMoodle and the others places where the user is identificated.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Sol
I have uploaded a new profileblock.php for you to use.
Please extract this file from the zip file to your aardvarklite theme folder so that it replaces the old profileblock.

Hope your are doing well.
Please have a look at my site below.

I have a problem
I want the Banner to be on the top
and the profile name, pic, language and options to be in the bottom but in one line instead of two lines on the top
or what you see to make my new banner artisitc and good to be shown
THanks a lot for your more than appreciated efforts.

I'll try a few ideas I have to help with the presentation of the profile block for you. Are you bothered if the words 'You are not logged in' are not there or not, as they do take up some space and really I don't think it is needed as most people will automatically log in any way.
I am quite busy at the moment, so it will be Monday or Tuesday before I get back to you with the changes to the header.html.

Mary
More than thankful to you.
Do whatever you see best for me.
I appreciate all your opinions very much.
Go ahead I will wait your creative clues.
Thanks a lot for your time.

Hopefully the changes I have made, to add this new banner, will work as desired. Please find the ZIP file attached to this comment. In it there is a new profileblock (translang_profileblock.php) a css file which holds all the css to the new profileblock and header; header.html and two images (the banner itself and the header background image) plus a screehshot to give you an idea what it looks like.
You will need to extract the zip file to your desktop and then copy the contents of translang.css and paste this at the end of your aardvark.css. Then change the name of your original header to header_old.html and place the new header.html into your aardvark theme folder. You will then need to create a new folder inside the image folder /images/translang and place the two png files in this new folder. Last you will need to put the new tranlang_profileblock.php into your aardvark theme folder (you can leave the old one there as it will not be called in the new header.html).
Hopefully when you refresh the screen you will see the changes.
Mary
EDIT! PS: I can't upload the zip file as it's too big...so will email to you.

More than thankful to you.

When there is no user logged in, the "You are not logged in" text seems to float up to within about 1 centimetre of the top of the banner.

When a user logs in that has a profile picture, the text moves down to where it should be - above the date block - at the bottom of the header banner - and the profile picture sits correctly.

I would like both texts to stay at the bottom of the header banner.
Yes, i have played around a little with the aardvark_lite.css, but I am a bit lost now.
Also, if I ended up wanting to completely remove the Profile pic in the header, where and how would I do that?
This is such a lovely theme. Thanks for your help.

By the way, my site is atplmet.co.nz
Make copies of your header.html and aardvark_lite.css before you add the new ones to your aardvark_lite theme folder.
I took the liberty of changing the banner slightly and resizing it to fit the header exactly.
I've disabled the profile as it wasn't needed as you can login and logout via the menu.
But I have included the username in the banner at the bottom in the center, which I think looks more professional. Let me know what you think?
Glad you are still using the theme!
Cheers...
Mary
However, I tried to upload the files you sent and now I am getting this error when I try to open atplmet.co.nz:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' in /home/content/m/a/c/macgoston/html/atplmet/theme/aardvark_lite/header.html on line 1
I tried to reinstall my original files (I made a backup as you suggested) - but this still comes up...I tried to refresh my browser etc... but still doesn't work
I'm looking forward to seeing the changes you made - hope everything is still ok

Mark
hmmmm a bit stressed now.....
by the way - i use ftp to upload everything....
Best is to unzip the files locally and then just FTP header.html & aardvark_lite.css to main aardvark_lite folder on your website. Then put the banner13.jpg into the images/header folder. At least this is how I would do it.
Or am I reading this all wrong? Is there something wrong with the zip-file?
Mary
even when i reinstalled the my original files - the error message remains...
It is a really great theme.
Where can I change the settings so the date is shown in our dutch format?
Best regards,
Harm
The code you need is in another theme I created called cafelite. If you give me a couple of days, I'll fix the date and post a reply at the weekend as I am not able to do this at the moment.
It's all in the way the date is generated, and the date in that theme doesn't use the system files, and so is not configured to change language.
Hi Harm,
I've managed to find a copy of the date format which will work better for you.
If you copy the code from the text file I have uploaded here, and paste it in place of the existing date code in aardvark_lite_menu.php, it should work in the language you have selected from the Moodle language menu, providing you have the language pack installed.
Hope this helps?
Mary
Hi Mary - hope you are doing well - just a couple of real quick questions... (www.atplmet.co.nz)
1. I am trying to change the width of the right column on the homepage. Where would I do this? - I can't see where in the CSS doc. When i put a banner pic (251 px wide) into the right column - it looks ok in Firefox, but in IE - it chops it off... (IE7). I need the slide show and the right banner to be nice and close - maybe 12 px apart...kinda like on my other site...(www.rcsoaring.co.nz) -
2. While on the subject of the slideshow, i finally got it to work, but in Firefox, the menu drop downs in behind the slide show, but in IE7, they appear correctly over the top of the slide show...any ideas?
Thanks again Mary
Mark G
Hi Mark, I'm doing OK thanks!
Answer: 1 - you could try adding width: 255px to the existing CSS
#layout-table #right-column{
vertical-align:top;
padding-left:0px;
padding-right:6px;
width: 255px;
}
Answer: 2 - This is a z-index issue you need to up the z-index for the menu from 1 to 9999999
Hi there Mary - thanks for your reply. Question 2 has now been solved - it worked. Thanks.
Question 1: still not woking....here is a pic of the right banner in IE7
You can see the right banner has been chopped off and there is a large white area between the center column and the right. This isn't a problem in firefox as it looks correct.
Also, still trying to figure out how to delete the small grey dots around the left and right column boxes?
Thanks Mary - what do you think?
Hi Mark,
Contrary to your beliefs Mark, about which browser displays right, in actual fact IE is displaying correctly for the sideblock dimentions for your site. Sideblocks are set at 180px both sides. In my own version I have them set at 210px, but this is still not the right width for the image you want to display in the right sideblock.
Here is what I suggest you do.
Against width: 255px which you added to layout-table right-column add the word !important after it. Like this...
#layout-table #right-column{
vertical-align:top;
padding-left:0px;
padding-right:6px;
width: 255px!important;
}
And hopefully all will work as it should. (see my screenshots below which I took after I tested it a few minutes ago)
The dotted border you can fix by changing 1px to 0px this stops standard theme kicking in CSS here...
.sideblock {
color:#555555;
border: gray 0px dotted !important;
background: #ffffff url('images/sideblocks/sidegrad.jpg') repeat-x !important;
}
Thanks again Mary - looks like that all worked Thanks so much for your time. I really appreciate it.
My pleasure!

Tong, Thanks for posting this question, but I'm not going to answer it in this thread as it's not this theme you are asking the question about.
Can you please add the complete question in the correct Theme discussion for Aardvark for Moodle 2.
Thanks
Mary
Great theme, Mary!
Thanks for your work on these.
I am having an issue when I installed the theme into my Moodle 1.9 install. It seems to show some of the SKIP PEOPLE, SKIP ACTIVITIES, etc links and seems to be adding a border to each image. I have attached two pictures for your reference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Mike
Hi Mike,
Sorry to hear you are having problems with this theme.
When you see the Skip to... on the page like you have, it indicates that the thme is missing some data. This can happen when uploading. Sometime the server can change overwrite the php code.
Is this the first theme you have ever uploaded?
Is it possible to send me a link to your site then I can investigate, there are a couple of possibilites, but I need to see the site. You can send a private message if you prefer?
Thanks
Mary
Hi mary - hope you are still monitoring this forum
Quick question - our site ATPLOnline.co.nz is about to launch after 12 months in development. We love this style you have created so much. Thanks.
Small problem - I have just finished creating a 60 question sample exam. When i go to preview it, the question numbers all disappear off to the right of the screen - see below. (Its important for us that we have only one question showing per page too - as shown below.) Is there a way we can get the question numbers to appear normally BELOW the questions - and not flow off the page?
Thanks Mary - hope you are well.
Mark
Hi Mark
Is there any way you could set me up with a temp ID/PWord so that I can see this firsthand?
It could be a number of things, but I need the reference for the CSS and I can only do this on site.
Cheers
Mary
Hi Mary, thanks so much for replying.
Test account details:
user: testaccount
password: @Happy5days
I can send you any files (css etc) if required.
Go to ATPL Meteorology course/quizzes/Meteorological Services To Aviation - Multichoice Quizz
Once you start the quizz - you will see the problem.
Also, if you have a tick, can you please check out this video: https://www.asltasman.com/TOL/Media/AviationCandidateVideoFinal.wmv
At about 2 minutes 20 seconds: do you think this is done with Moodle? Have you seen a quizz theme like this? We are preparing aviation students to sit their aviation exams, and ideally would like our sample exams to closely resemble this type of style at some point. Any thoughts?
Thanks Mary - as usual, I really appreciate your help
Mark
Hi Mark,
Sorry to say I didn't see any problems. I tested in FireFox (4) first and IE* (with and without compatibility mode) an nothing to report...see screenshot as proof. The pages are listed as they are in the forum...with 1, 2, 3, ...NEXT
I'm worried as the only problem I see now is that you must still be using IE6 or IE7...!!! I don't know how to fix this if that is the case.
If it's NOT IE them it must be Moodle itself...so you need to upgrade!!!
We are now upto Moodle 1.9.12
As for the Video. You would be better off talking to Mary Cooch who is a wizz Kid with Video tutorials, and also be able to give you advice re the course too. This is a link to here profile...
http://moodle.org/user/profile.php?id=531675
And here's a screenshot...both looked the same...IE8 & Firefox...so just adding one view here.
Mary
Hi Mary, thanks for your reply.... I'm very sorry - I gave you the wrong quizz to view...very sorry.....actually ALL the quizzes do show up fine EXCEPT the one called "Sample ATPL Meteorology Exam 1" - Here. This partuicular quizz (sample exam) has 60 questions, and takes 3 hours for students to complete. I get the error in firefox 3.8, 4, and and IE7....
The pic in your post above is for a smaller end-of-Topic quick quiz - which do show fine for me....these only have 20 questions.
Sorry again....hope you can see problem now.. thanks for contact info for Mary.
Mark
Well I don't know what all the fuss is about Mark...but this too works OK
see snapshot...
I can't check in IE7.
Thanks for checking Mary, unfortunately I am still getting the error. I will play around a bit to see if I can fix it.
On another note - will this theme of yours work on version 2.3? I am wondering if I should upgrade to the very latest version before we make the course public. What do you think?
Have you checked to see if Javascript is switched off in the browser you are using to test this? Because when I first went to that page, for a split second I saw the numbers scroll to the right, but changed to the abbreviated version of the page numbers after Javascript kicked in.
Have you tried clearing the cache? It worked perfectly in Firefox 4 and IE8 so there is nothing wrong with the code...which make me think it's your computer!
I would wait until July 1st when Moodle 2.1 is released as this should be easier to change to.
NO this theme will NOT work on Moodle 2.0 although I have lots of themes which are similar in layout to this one. Check Moodle Themes out look for Aardvark and filter for requires Moodle 2.0
Mary
Thanks Mary - javascript is tuned on and cache has been cleared....same result. Even tried another computer in the house....same result...wonder what we are doing wrong...am please to hear it works ok on your computer though
Ok - will wait till 1 July. Thanks for your advice.
Mark
Mary - have had a think about this over the weekend...the only difference i can see is that the image you posted up to show it was working ok was when you clicked 'submit' quizz. I too get the correct looking question numbers WHEN I click submit, but when I am 'sitting the quizz', and moving between different questions BEFORE I submit the quizz, this is when the error with the numbers moving right off the screen occurs for me.
Could you kindly check to see if that is the case for you too? This happens on any computer I try to view the quizz on....
Thanks again Mary
Mark
Hi Mark,
Yes I do get that odd behavior, however the first time I went to that page that happened for a split second, but then corrected itself, this time it stayed! I checked to see where the css is coming from and all points to standard theme. You haven't altered tat have you? The Javascript in the page was written by Tim Hunt, who is a Moodle developer.
I'm going to ask Tim Hunt to take a look at this, as I think it could be something to do with the javascript. Is it OK for him to use the same login?
If he needs another login/pword can you send it to me via a Private Message and I'll pass it on?
Thanks
Hi Mary - no I don't think the css has been altered with regard to this. A couple of things in the aardvark_lite.css have been altered - like line spacing and maybe font size, but not in the standard css files.
Yes Tim can just use the same login in. It would be great for him to take a look.
Thanks Mary - kind of pleased you can at least see the error now.... I appreciate your time on this.
Mark
Have you read Tim's reply?
Sorry, I missed this thread. Thank you to Mary for bringing it to my attention.
The best answer to your question would be to upgrade to Moodle 2.0 or 2.1 (in a few weeks). The quiz user interface is much better there. I know that is not an easy thing to do.
Meanwhile I suspect that the problem in 1.9 is that it is doing lots of for layout, so there is no way to make things wrap using just CSS. Yes. You need to adjust the quiz_print_navigation_panel function in mod/quiz/locallib.php. Change some of the to an ordinary space.
Hi Tim,
Thanks for taking a look at the Quiz...knowing you are the Quiz 'Master' I thought you would be best person to ask.
Cheers
Mary
Hi Tim and Mary,
Thanks tim for taking a look at this. i will take a look at the file you mentioned and see if I can fix it as you suggested. I really apprecaite your tiome on this.
Mary - thanks very much for forwarding this onto Tim. Again, thanks for your help.
Regarding the upgrade to 2.1, I am very nervous about doing this myself. Am I permitted to ask one of you to consider doing the upgrade for me? I am of course willing to pay for this service. This would be the ideal solution for me. hope it's ok to ask....
Thanks again....
Mark
Well it looks like we are getting closer. I removed the 5 or 6 references and replaced them with just a space, here is the result. All i need now is the colon ; removed between the page numbers ?? is this an easy fix?
Hi Mark,
The ; is part of the space code so you can safely take those out too.
As for upgrade...I'm the wrong person. But what I have been told is make a copy of your database and put it on a TEST server and try upgrading. You need to make backups of everything. Moodle 2.1 will be easier to upgrade from 1.9.12. You also need to make sure you have all the correct server specifications - nothing less than Apache 2.1.17 - PHP 5.3.5 - MySQL 5.5.8.
Mary
All fixed - Yipee!
Thanks to you Mary and Tim - I really appreciate your help
All working great. Thanks.
GREAT!!!
Hi Mary - hope you are still monitoring this forum
Hope you are well...
Just a quick question: do you know how to remove the 'resources list' that appear as text at the bottom of my homepage? SEE HERE: http://atplonline.co.nz/
(The list that starts with Caesar's Civil War...etc...) I don't want this list to appear here, as I have other links on the page..... I don't know which file or code to delete etc...
Any thoughts...
Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark,
I normally put the resources into a separate block (or even a completely separate course just for holding resources I don't want listed), so long as it is made available to those who need it. The block can then be hidden. So long as the resources themsleves aren't hidden they should still be available through the links you have made.
Richard
Hi Richard - now that is actually a very good - and neat idea...thanks for that...i shall give this some though overnight....
Thanks
Mark
Hi Richard - now that is actually a very good - and neat idea...thanks for that...i shall give this some though overnight....
Thanks
Mark
I am also considering making the homepage just TWO columns - not three.... where is the code that would make this change? What would I need to alter in the code to get the left hand column to disappear, and for the center column to shuffle to the left and take up both spaces?
Thanks
Mark
Hi I am still here!
The best way might be to turn editing ON and ADD BLOCK 'Main Menu' and then MOVE the resources to the Main Meue block then HIDE the Main Menu.
I think this will work OK?
Mary
Turn editing ON and MOVE all the LEFT BLOCKS to the RIGHT-HAND SIDEBAR when you are in FRONTPAGE view. It is THAT easy!
Cheers
Mary
